Denominations for 1000 Piece Set? (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone, been going down this rabbit hole, and I wanted to know what denominations y'all would recommend.

Usually around 8 people
.25/.50 to 5/5 (Usually smaller side, but want to host bigger in the future)
Planning on a 1000-piece set.

.25: 100
$1: 400
$5: 300
$25: 100
$100: 100

On the side note, I was planning on getting them from discountcasinogear.com as they had the best prices. If there are any other cheaper shops tho, I'm open to it.

I liked the look of Clay Monaco Club chips and want to stay around the $250 US price range.

I'd switch the quantites of the $1s and $5s at the least.

If you will truly run 5/5 sometimes and you're set on 1000 chips, then maybe 100/200/400/200/100. That's a bank of $25 + $200 + $2000 + $5000 + $10000 = $17225, which is ~34x 100BB buy-in for 5/5. That's a little over 4 buy-ins per player with 8 players.

For your price range <=$250, I would recommend the Nexgen Remix as an option:

$240 for a 1,000. I bought an older version of these years ago and I still think for the money one of the best entry level chips that aren’t cheap dice slugged chips and they feel nice IMO.

My set (the colors are brighter on the newer remix version):

For breakdown, if you want to host up to $5/$5 then you’ll need a bigger bank / top end. General advise is you want around 5000-5500x the big blind. So for a $5 big blind, you should have $25k-$28k bank to be safe. That gives 8 players 2ish bullets at $1k-$1.5k buyin.

If I mod the breakdown from Quad’s thread above, add on a rack of $0.25 and 150 more $1s I’d do this and you could spread your stakes.

$2/$5 Mapping - $1,000 Max Buy In for 200 Big blinds

Chips Needed - 1000 Total Chips

100x 0.25 ($25)
200x $1 ($200)
300x $5 ($1,500)
275x $25 ($6,875)
100x $100 ($10,000)
25x $500 ($12,500)

Total Bank: $31,100

You could also go with @TheOffalo suggestion, get more $5s and cut the really high denoms if you’re not sure you’ll end up that deep.

A benefit with chips at this price is you can always add on/ buy the same brand/style in the future.

Thank you for the advice. I'll definitely swap the $1s and $5s, but I don't see myself currently running that big of a game. Maybe 1/3 max. But I like your suggestion for future-proofing and will probably use your idea to have 200 $25s. Thank you!

I'm a fan of 12 quarters per person for initial buy-ins vs 8. Would personally bump the quarters to 120 to cover at least a table of 10, but personal preference.

Ok bad analogy. Your call, if you like the look - get’em. You won’t find much love for metal slugged heavier 11.5-13.5g chips here though. Nexgens are 9gram. All of these are more plastic than ‘clay’.

I’d recommend buying a shuffle stack of 20/25 each - whatever the cheapest option is to get a few in hand. Then choose.

There is no need to get more than 100 x 25¢, imo (sorry @Cratty ). Rarely a game with 10-players is a good one. And even if you have the occasional 10-player game, you'd give 12 fracs to some and 8 to others.

Haha thanks, I like the look of the Monaco club chips so I’ll go with them.
