Hey all!

I'm still experimenting with design ideas (mostly for my own enjoyment), and this is what I've come up with. I know that these resemble the Del Lago design, which I really like, but there's also a lot of backstory.

When I was young, I lived in Mesa, AZ, and I spent a lot of time at my grandparents' house on a street called Del Mar. A lot of my best memories come from this house, like hanging out in their pool (hence the background wave pattern). I also have a lot of good memories of Arizona, so I wanted to include the setting sun logo, but I'm not sure how well it's working with the design, and this is where I'd love to hear your feedback. Something about it feels incomplete, but I'm not entirely sure what it is.

I made the chips in the Paulson chip designer, but that was just for fun and to color-match the inlays. If you have any feedback, I'd love to hear it!

I like the chips themselves, they feel pretty classic and well defined from eachother.

In terms of something feeling “incomplete” my first thought was the denom font being white with a thin outline. From a distance, they literally look missing lol. I don’t hate it, but for me that’s what I immediately noticed felt incomplete.

And for me either “del” is not pronounced enough, or “mar” is over pronounced. I would play with those a little for some more balance.

I’d like to see some more variety instead of leaning on the 1/8 edge spots. Alternatively, all four could use 1/8 spots. Feels weird having three of the four using variations of the same spot.
I like the colors. The exception being that the dark color spot on the $1 is too dark. Makes it very similar to the dark spot on the $5.
Mar reads too strong. Maybe coloring out the denoms as @GamingWithChips said will help. Location is so small and the grey gradient exacerbates that.
Good start 👍

Good start! I agree that the something about the weight mismatch between "del" and "MAR" looks off. If you want to keep the weights separate, I would try adjusting it so that "del" is above "MAR", instead of mixing two different weights on one line as you have now.

Another alternative would be to center "MAR" and then put "del" at a 45 degree angle sort of above and to the left of "MAR".

I made some tweaks based on the feedback I received, and I mocked up 2 different inlays. One keeps the wavy background, while the other has more of a "sunburst" background since Arizona is incredibly sunny. I also swapped the sun logo for a palo verde blossom. I'm not 100% sold on it, but I feel like it's an improvement. I did try using red denominations, but I just didn't like how it looked on this design. Feedback very welcome!

Because you have so many dark “features” ie fonts and pin stipe edge spots, I would just try a black denim if you haven’t already
