I make custom police challenge coins, and recently had the thought to make metal poker chip sets similar to the Pirate Gold metal set, but customized with various police agency seals/patches/badges. After reading through some reviews here, I'm not so sure. I want it to be a cool product, but also something people enjoy playing with!

So how can I make it good-er? Should the chips be bigger or smaller? Lighter or heavier? More textured to improve grip? I will definitely already be making them interlocking, so they stack nicely.

Is this a product that could have been improved enough to be used, if not for everyday play at least on fun occasions? Or is metal just not the right material for poker chips, and it should be left to a quality clay chip?

Thanks!!

Texture and not too heavy will be key for metal chips.
So textured all over the coin? Like #6, 10, or 12 of this image?

out of respect for clay chips I would be careful, but I would think non chipers could not care less about the clay and metal aspects.

Its so common to stack chips on top of the bounty.

Please never use the word Toss and 50mm metal in the same sentence ever again. Also you would have to take out life insurance on me if I was your dealer

Honestly, and around this group, to make them better, not metal is the answer.

If we wanted to play with coins, we already would. If casinos wanted poker players to play with coins, they also would.

Personally, the thing I despise the most handling coins and metal in general is the smell on my hands that takes many washings to go away. That alone makes these a no-go for me.

Thanks! That's exactly the input I want. I like the occasional poker game, but I am not a frequent player and not picky about chips. I wanted to ask people who are invested, before asking potential customers to make an investment in a product. I don't want to sell shiny metal chips that are given as a gift, but never actually used or enjoyed. I think they would be fun for the occasional non-invested player, but I don't know if I can make them at a price point for that person! If I am making them at a price point for a more serious player, they have to be worth it!

Here's something I saw on IG @cuontheriver

Casino $5's
1oz silver rounds
$100 Notes
10oz silver bars

Really glad this makes someone happy but I hate it. I don't mind cash on the table but the combo of coins and chips and bars and paper is bullshit.
It'd be cool to try it out once ~ make's me wonder if they still buy-in with cash. A lot of risk at that point.
