Hi all -

Just getting into chips beyond The Dice of Dread™ so I have samples on my desk and more on the way. yay! That said, I'm focused more on craps than poker, so I've been sussing out craps-oriented advice so far. That's been going pretty well. However, I did want to solicit some advice on craps layouts. I'll provide some context and then ask some questions. :)
  • I have an existing craps layout that's many years old. Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Brybelly-Craps-Roulette-Table-Felt/dp/B00HAE3MH2, basically. It's cramped, low quality, sheds everywhere, and it's time to upgrade. I gotta get something new.
  • I'm looking for something that can support 6-8 players, assuming I'd do all of the dealing most of the time, might have someone able to help me at least part of the time, but I can't count on it.
  • I don't have a table yet, nor immediate plans to build one. It's something I'm still exploring, but I have a lot of planning to do before I can really commit to that. This layout doesn't necessarily have to be the same one I put on a real table, given I don't know the design constraints I'm working with yet.
  • If/when I do build a table with an actual bucket, pyramid bumpers, and rails, and that I'm proud of having (and people will say "oooh that's like a 'real' craps table!') it'll likely be something that can be disassembled as I don't have room for a permanent table in my house. I've identified 7'x7' and 7'x8' areas I can use for a temporary spot to set something up for a party, maybe a bit more, but unfortunately I don't have something like a gaming basement area to dedicate to something like this (as much as I'd like to!).
  • Until then I'll be putting together a hodgepodge setup of some sort that can hopefully support a new layout and still have a bit of a backstop for dice for some fun rolling (and some protection in front of my multi-monitor computer setup that might sit behind that end of the table if I put this in my "office" area)
  • I am not a woodworker nor a craftsman of furniture type things. I have friends that are more DYI than I am in that regard, but more about home improvement and basic building. Counter-sunk screws with dowel-rod plugs routed, filed, and sanded down for computer desk speaker/keyboard stands were revelations to me. wizardry. Dark arts. Mystical. Although I love the idea of power tool acquisition. :) Speak to me about some technology thing, I'm your guy. Cutting a hole in my wall to run some electrical or check a water pipe (suddenly relevant down here in Austin), I'm lost. :)
So, time for my specific questions, which should not be the limit for advice from you fine folk. Certainly I'm in the unknown-unknown part of some of this here... :)
  • I know that @T_Chan makes some seriously cool tables and custom felt that is worth looking at when I'm ready to go into the serious table build. My guess is that's too much for my first foray into "I'd like something I can use with a simple setup" type thing, but I'd like to be proven wrong there.
  • I also looked at casinosupply.com at felt example like this: https://www.casinosupply.com/collec...ssic-craps-layout-green-1?variant=19630760838 and they have some great options starting with the 6' and 8' layouts that appear to be half-sized (6') or compressed full versions (8') of a regular craps layout - both of which are intriguing. I'd love to hear from people that have tried these layouts and what their opinions are of the final product (especially the difference between the "pro" and "max" variants)
  • Table surface and basic design - I'm thinking at first I'll need to mount the felt on plywood, either 1 or 2 pieces, then source some sort of folding table type thing big enough to hold the plywood and not have it tip over with some amount of weight put on it. Any ideas here beyond this would be appreciated. I don't have an existing large dining room table or anything like that - our kitchen dining area is our only dining area - so no existing furniture to make use of here. So semi-portable and stowable is important.
I think that's all I have for now - this post is getting quite long, and I've started drinking beer so it's not going to get any better. :)

In case it helps, a few threads I've referenced on PCF so far:

Thanks to all those posters and contributors that allowed me to lurk&learn through those existing discussions... :)

Thanks for everyone's help, already love this community! It's been so long since I've interacted regularly with an actual forum - I've forgotten how it worked. Read the trip report from July 2020 by @Poker Zombie last night - that was great stuff. Spending too much of my time here already, which will definitely hurt my wallet. :D

If you have the budget, check out Pharaoh Manufacturing (pharaohusa.com). Based out of Glendale, CA. If you can think it, they can build it. Their custom craps tables are insane. They’ve done both my custom tables.

I'm going to be building another craps table in the future for my rentals. It's likely going to be the type that can be broken down into 4-5 parts for easier transportation, and even possibly for making it larger or smaller depending on the venue.

I've had a couple of people order custom craps felts from me so far for single dealer tables, 8' tables. They turned out pretty nice with their own adjustments.

Hi @T_Chan - I figured I might see you here. :) I've seen your work around the forum, I think in one of the craps links I had above as well. I've also seen your tables on some of the poker threads. Amazing work. I'd love to chat with you about a craps felt layout - should I just DM you?

I saw this months ago before joining this forum, is there any chance you could customise the blue felt for my game?

Love it
