Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (69 Viewers)

If a player is struggling tell them to announce their bets before grabbing the chips. We had one player last night that would count out chips in $10 stack increments. Obviously that slows down the game when were using mostly $5’s and he’s trying to bet $100 LOL

Also when someone gets felted, use that opportunity to get higher denominations in play. However…rather than have him give his chips to the player that won the pot, have him re-buy and keep those chips in front of them, then give the winner some higher denomination chips. A simple tip, most know but forget to implement.
No doubt. And again, your history and expertise on hosting can smooth those things over.

But you’re literally describing work arounds to an issue caused by using a poor breakdown of chips not optimized for the game being played.

NOT saying you’re wrong, not saying what you’re doing isn’t the most fun setup.

Simply pointing it out because in general, people are dumb. And circle jerkey. They see it and hear you and think “oh that’s the way to run a game!”.

For the average lay person, which imo is still prob 95%+ of hosts here, it’s a larger detriment than positive.

The average person also isn’t on PCF using leaded Paulsons from historic Las Vegas casinos.

The average person isn’t even using Tina’s!

Moar is fun!

Trying to collect every single WSOP chip is silly. Go start collecting numismatic silver or stamps, it’s no different.

I have some WSOP singles outside of my playable set but I don’t understand the appeal of trying to have like the secondary dealer ladies event chip from 2009.

(Only @Zmasterben is excused from this critique).

I always think I’m prob just super dumb because I have such little experience of exposure to poker.

In what world is it necessary or does it make sense for a single table of players to all have a rack of $5s, 1-2 barrels of $1s, and 1-2 players a handful of $25s.

Not a shot at Booyah, and yes I totally get it and love it MOAR chips no doubt.

But from a functional perspective, what game, other than some strange spread limit I don’t understand, does this make sense for?

I’m sorry, for $2/$5? Ummmm how? $5s are barely a workhorse for $1/$1 games. Yeah okay sure there’ll be some opens for $15, and yeah you need some $5s and $1s for your $69, $123, and $420 bet sizes.

I know Craig puts far too much effort into his hosting and I’m sure it works smoothly, I just don’t see it. Seems like just an over inflation of chips/pots that we keep having to push in, restack, etc. Feels the same to me like when it’s time to take quarters off the table midway through a .25/.50 game. I’m guessing all rebuys are done in $25s/$100s and usually 1-2 dudes end up with a giantly massive pile of the $5s by nights end.

Or, more likely, I’m an idiot that doesn’t understand.
In a casino 2-5 1k max game what are they giving players when they buy in for the max? A rack of 5’s and a barrel of $25’s? That’s kind of what I’m getting at.

Counterpoint…maybe mostly bc of rake

PCFer. It’s more enjoyable, and here lies another nostalgic moment. We’re use to it from the casinos and enjoy replicating those moments.

To me, there are 3 factors why this is better/preferred:
1) Feels more like a real game to anyone that has played much in a casino/cardroom.
2) More chips leads to better action...it is easier for people to put chips in the pot when they have piles in front of them.
3) Scooping and stacking large pots of chips is fun and part of the game!

The 2009 Ladies event used the primary chip set you own.

You've fallen into your own trap, idiot!
