Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (55 Viewers)

The fucking “hero” thing is overplayed and needs to end. In recanting action in a hand it’s okay because I get we want to feel like a main character (though idk why we’re using more letters when “I” from the perspective of OP and “you” from perspective of audience work well).

But when it bleeds into talking about how you organize structure of your game or how you arrange your chips or anything else like what’s with this weird third person self aggrandizing thing?
Do you see it a lot?

Sure mojo did it recently, but that cat pretty much only posts poker hands/ pics/etc.

Now if a person starts doing that irl or via text, I’d say their dbaggery levels would be pretty off the charts.

I will say this: Not a fan of Paulson’s metallic colors. I assume that’s Gold on the Cajun Cup edge spots, right?
Beige, I believe:

I personally tend to like a more neutral color on most 3d14 chips when next to a really eccentric color like Lime, Arc Yellow, etc. It's is why you see Gray on so many red fives. Hell, at one time a majority of my leaded red fives had a gray insert (Adolfo's, Hinkley, Ruger/CDI, Claim Stake).

All that said, I don't typically like the metallic spot colors either, although Gold itself doesn't have the flecks, Metallic Gold does.

Hero opens PCF and sees a comment from Villian he doesn’t agree with. Should Hero:

1. Post snarky reply
2. Ignore and carry on
3. Flip over the table and challenge Villian to a heads up game to decide who is the greatest poker player of all time
4. Drink more Ovaltine

There are plenty of PCF users that have dysfunctional relationships with their games and their chips, that aren’t grounded in reality. They are harmless, but that doesnt make it less annoying.

SteveEH is getting upset!

Having more than 4 racks of the workhorse chip for any cash set is overkill.
4 racks of $5's is perfect for a deep meet up game. For the average home game, 2-3 is plenty and as @chippitydoodah points out, allows for the $20/$25 and $100's to get into play.

Even at a meetup 3 weeks ago I found myself reaching for the $20 plaques when I banked my set once two racks of $5's got out there

But if its a keeper set, hoarding racks gets your posts more updoots, it helps keep the value of your racks/sets, and gives you something extraneous to flip for $ later.

I think any smart chipper is absolutely running 5, 6, 10+ racks of $5s if there set has a remotely desirable $5.

I always think I’m prob just super dumb because I have such little experience of exposure to poker.

In what world is it necessary or does it make sense for a single table of players to all have a rack of $5s, 1-2 barrels of $1s, and 1-2 players a handful of $25s.

Not a shot at Booyah, and yes I totally get it and love it MOAR chips no doubt.

But from a functional perspective, what game, other than some strange spread limit I don’t understand, does this make sense for?

I’m sorry, for $2/$5? Ummmm how? $5s are barely a workhorse for $1/$1 games. Yeah okay sure there’ll be some opens for $15, and yeah you need some $5s and $1s for your $69, $123, and $420 bet sizes.

I know Craig puts far too much effort into his hosting and I’m sure it works smoothly, I just don’t see it. Seems like just an over inflation of chips/pots that we keep having to push in, restack, etc. Feels the same to me like when it’s time to take quarters off the table midway through a .25/.50 game. I’m guessing all rebuys are done in $25s/$100s and usually 1-2 dudes end up with a giantly massive pile of the $5s by nights end.

Or, more likely, I’m an idiot that doesn’t understand.

This is pokerchipforum.com that you are posting on.

Piles of chips is fun. Visually fun. Scooping massive pots. If you’re well versed in handling chips it’s no issue.

Some players struggle with it no doubt. They don’t know how to bet while using chips fast. It happens. But it’s not about efficiency it’s about chip porn and also a hint of nostalgia from playing limit poker.

8 racks of $5s in this game as well bc it was Holdem. And not crazy action players. So bets were gonna be smaller. Chips r sticking around longer. If we’re playing PLO it’s gonna be significantly less.

This makes sense. It was Josh’s comment (not trying to point out Josh specifically) and I see those pretty often where they defend the functionality/efficiency - and that simply doesn’t compute for me.

If a player is struggling tell them to announce their bets before grabbing the chips. We had one player last night that would count out chips in $10 stack increments. Obviously that slows down the game when were using mostly $5’s and he’s trying to bet $100 LOL

Also when someone gets felted, use that opportunity to get higher denominations in play. However…rather than have him give his chips to the player that won the pot, have him re-buy and keep those chips in front of them, then give the winner some higher denomination chips. A simple tip, most know but forget to implement.

I saw someone say 20 chips per denom per person and that seemed reasonable to me. 8-10 player game would have 1-2 racks of quarters, 2 racks of $1/$5, then a 80-100 $20/$25's and possibly 20 $100.

Obviously tailor amounts to individual games but this sounded like a good rule of thumb to balance things.
