Like sure it’s “worth less”, but that’s to people that aren’t buyers?

It’s not “worth less” to people that are buyers except they know they can get some % off. What’s weird is that if you are a buyer of murdered, then…they should be more desirable?

No different than “mint” vs in play once or twice. The perceived change in value is 100% a social construct and made up. We don’t have objective terms, we don’t have grades, we don’t have an authoritative body.

I think it’s hilarious how many mint sets there are. Every mint set I buy, I put in play once and then sell for the same price.

To me, any murdered chip is pretty much worthless. But if you’re into that sort of thing, you have to realize that not all chips are murdered equally. If they’re milled cleanly and relabled cleanly, you might have to give it a second glance to notice that they’re murdered. But you’ll see plenty of chips that are raggedly murdered to shit. Nobody should ever pay a penny for them and the murderer’s name and picture should be posted on a wall of shame so they can be shunned.

I’ve never finished a project, going all the way back to the 5,000-10,000 8V china clays I started with.

Simply due to the difficulty of finding good labor, and then scheduling and cost. You’re telling me it costs how much to label .08 chips? You’re telling me I’m paying another $50-$100+ a rack to murder/label/whatever these thcs?

Now that I only have my last retirement sets in house that need finishing, I find myself having to finally pull the trigger. 10+ racks need murdered, more labeled.

Edit - I should’ve known what PCF was when I couldn’t even shake racks of red china clay 8v’s loose. Lmao people were holding onto $10 racks of chips like they were gold as trade bait. Gtfoh

Go back a while and you can find where I kicked off this same song and dance shortly after the Tigers.

NAGB chips are designed on a spectrum from A) meant to play as a set together to B) meant to be murdered and used for custom sets

IMO: Hot stamps, cohesive designs, spot progression, etc bias a set towards A. Bright, flashy, uncohesive spots with weaker inlays etc lean towards B.

Jeep was very defensive that he designed all the TP chips on the merits of their use as fitting together as well designed sets. (Paraphrasing but I think that’s close).

Personally I think the goal should be for a base set that’s nice enough to not need murder but to ultimately contribute to the inventory of possible custom chips by adding something new color/spot wise. Like unlocking more frac options which alway seem to be in short supply.

There’s nothing sacred about NAGB chips. Maybe here’s the most controversial take: I think NAGB chips that haven’t been murdered and customized are just in the hands of lazy/uninspired owners. Murdering them isn’t heresy, so why haven’t you yet?

I am a big Jim fan. I’m a big cratty fan.

But I’m gonna need this explained to me re color choices, design, spot progression, overall tone/direction, original vs. tribute, etc.

Def controversial. Tigers without a doubt are the best stock sets. Just check the market. Tons of supply yet still in demand. What skyrocketed Jim’s chips were the low counts tbh. And I think some of his nailed the theme and design (RA and Luckys). But Tigers r bangers. ESPT and AST (both tourney sets) also goated. Those 3 are the best done NAGB chips. BTP are pretty awesome but it’s a very unique inlay, but awesome stock set.

And ofc RPC had a killer Cali set. Same can be said with Sunset Beach! Tough choices…

I’m not saying NAGB chips were solely meant to be murdered, but it’s just another fantasy chip. Don’t get caught up in the rarity. They will never garner the rarity or collection value of a vintage casino chip or rack of Dunes $1000s etc.

Not the chips themselves. There are individual TP chips that are amazing. But most of the lineups don’t scream to me “this a cohesive set meant to stay together and be loved on the merit of the design of inlay with chips, the spot progression, etc.”

They’re nice chips, to murder and use in custom sets and reconfigure.

RAs don’t immediately give me that sense. Lucky’s even less but that’s cause milling is such a question mark to me and like, different stamps each denom. That doesn’t immediately put it in a different class than HS tigers?

RPC same boat as TP. If someone came on here with that inlay and spot combos you know they’d get pooh poohed for just another beach thing with bright colors or copying lakeshore or whatever.

It’s amazing murder fodder! But they’d be better murdered, shuffled up with other NAGB options, and customized.

People who buy expensive, non-leaded chips like boat chips or other NAGB chips, then murder to them relabel and put them in a custom set, then decide they don't want them anymore and list them for sale at the same price they paid for them when they were unique, expensive NAGB chips. Dude, you murdered them, so now they are no longer valuable, rare NAGB chips. They're just regular Paulson unleaded chips. If they have nice colors, they're worth - Tops - $4 a chip. Not the $8-9 you paid for them.

I don't need $10 that bad, and I really, probably, maybe should, or might not ever make a set out of them. I believe I currently have 2600 8Vs in the closet, with only about 800 labeled into a playable set.
