Isn’t step 1 starting to fade? TCV doesn’t have a casino license and still coordinated the Faro Dunes purchase.

I’m sure step 1 is still in place for most people, but it seems with the right connections GPI is starting to loosen up on the whole BS “security” thing.

They don’t sell to individuals.
They might sell to business with a PO and invoice process in place. Especially if it’s a business that would have a legit need for their wares.

There are a lot of myths out there that are obviously not true, same as any other seldom used and fluid process. Observation alone tells you some of them just aren’t hard truths.

I will say, if you bank alot and you crew brings nothing but 20s, 20 chips start becoming a lot easier to get. Makes cash ins lighting fast. Chip per bill.

Yeah. That's ties into point above about as "biggest denom it works" and it's hard to argue with.

Also in Pai Gow or another 5% commission in casino game a $20 chip works.

And i agree with above sentiment. As biggest denom $2500 works too even without a $1k.

Agreed! I happen to love $20 chips, but only as the highest value chip in a low stakes cash game. Even better if it's over-sized. But for a larger game, where $100 chips might make it into play, then I will use $25s.

This is an issue. I just came across myself . I have a smaller game with friends and family that has $.25 $.25 cent blinds. And we use the $20 chip for this game because they do not see very many of the $ 25 or $100 chip in play.
I have my regular game that runs 2/5 which uses the $25 chip and $100 chip sometimes 500 chip sometimes 1000.

I want to merge these sets together, so I am trying to figure out if I should use the $20 chip or the $25 chip, I do not want to have both. My lower state players love the $20 chip because they use it more frequently than if I had $25 chip all my chips in this new set will be 43 mm.

So I’m trying to calculate the difference and acceptability of using the $20 chip in my bigger game.

Does anyone have any thoughts or comments about the viability either way.? $20 chip vs. $25 chip?

I think it would be easier for the low stakes group to adjust to a rare $25 versus the 2/5 crowd remembering they're $20s not $25s. Either way it'll work, but I think $25 is more intuitive in the long run.

I’ve come to the conclusion that $20 chips are bullshit, which is decidedly unfortunate, considering my favorite chip is a $20 chip.

I’ve never understood the argument that $20 chips work well with players who buy in with $20 bills. When my players buy in with $20 bill, they’re generally handing me five of them. And I’m generally giving them back twenty $5 chips. But with large chips, how is five twenty dollar chips easier to manage than four Twenty-five dollar chips?

If you already have both then why not keep both? when fracs are in play use the $20s. when playing $2-$5 use the $25s. Why choose when you have both?

....but if you must choose bye bye $20s. No contest.

The higher stakes game will probably keep making mistakes with the $20 chip. I know we did so I had to scrap my custom $20 CDI chip.

I think as long as you go one way or the other and be consistent your group will adapt to whatever you choose.
For me the only time it’s been a problem is at meetups when chip sets change daily or more. In the morning you are throwing 5 $5 chips over for a $25, but by afternoon you catch yourself throwing 5 $5 over for a $20. Keep it constant and everyone will adjust.

When I host or know I’m going to run the bank I’ve always had plenty of change. Usually $50 in $5s and $50 in $1s.
I’ll use this as part of my buy in.

The $20 bill argument is dumb and I guess because they taught us how to count in first grade, I’ve never had efficiency issues cashing out any denominations of chips. $25 chips are much more efficient in a game and there’s never any confusion.

They are bullshit in a card game. There are several $20 chips that I’ll say look nice and I can understand people liking the chip because of that reason.
But the $20 bill argument is stupid. Just say I like this $20 chip and leave it at that cause in a game, they suck!

Agreed with @Lil Tuna and @upNdown . At one point a $20 chip sounded nice because we rarely got the upper denoms in play in our 0.25/0.50 games. Now my game has grown and we almost always get $25s in play and it runs great with it. When we play our 1/2 NLHE games the $25 runs much more smoothly without a doubt. I wouldn’t even try to use a $20 chip there no matter how nice the chip looks.

I say stick with the $25 if you are only keeping that or the $20 demon.

That makes sense. But even then I think it’s a 50/50 thing. Mostly because if somebody’s buying in with two twenty dollar bills, are you really going to toss them two chips? If it’s a small set and you’re all out of the lower denoms, sure. But otherwise they’re getting $5s, and at lower stakes maybe some $1s too.
And personal preference is fair - if you like them, use them. No argument. I just don’t think there’s an advantage to either chip in terms of buying in or cashing out, no matter what bills are in the till. They both work fine.

it does, but at 1/2 and 1/3 population dynamics rule the roost. You're not wrong, its not going to "fool" competent regs, but it helps paint a picture. Most players seem to assume your 3bets are much tighter and your cbets are scarier. Those edges help, these aren't players I see weekly these are mouthbreathers I will never see again. Even if it just nets me a bet here and there, nametag it is!

But that's just me, I suck at poker and don't play professionally so I lean into live-play goofiness. Lanyard also gives people something to ask/talk about other than politics or bad beat stories.
