Self-dealt PLO6. 7-handed. There was some betting on the flop. Cutoff folded her six cards and accidentally got it mixed with the unprotected deck stub. Out of the 12 cards in that pile, it's no longer possible to distinguish which six were part of her discarded hand and which six were part of the stub.

What should we do? For reference, the house follows Robert's Rules of Poker with some support from TDA rules when applicable. Therefore, please don't say misdeal. There's too much significant action.

Quick overview of PLO6 (aka 6-Card Pot Limit Omaha Hi)
Same as regular Omaha, except with six individual hole cards. Community card game with the standard five card board. Must use exactly two from individual and three from the board to make the best five-card poker hand.

EDIT1: added clarity

I don't know the "correct" answer, but if the fold truly can't be identified from the stub, I have the dealer shuffle the 12 cards and play out the turn and then the river.

I can't fathom how this happens though, how do 6 fold cards get so mixed in with the stub that you can't identify them?

52-(7x6)-4 = 6

Dealer must’ve put the stub down to look at his cards or something without putting a dealer button on top to protect it. Imagine if someone throws six cards into six

I agree with @CraigT78, shuffle all 12 together and burn and turn.

What about this situation? After flop, the dealer, who is still in, accidentally picks up the stub thinking it’s his hand and sees all the cards. What should happen? Dealer folds?

What if dealer picks up stub thinking it’s his hand but only sees one card? Treat as exposed card (show everyone else) and use as burn before the turn?

Yeah, but it would have to be a perfect fold with all six cards magically sliding into the other 6 cards.

I suppose the person who folded should be able to identify her own cards though with 6 cards it might not be possible for her to remember if she had J3o or J4o with the other four cards.

This one is easy. I've encountered this multiple times in casino settings. The dealer takes the mucked hand/s and the stub and combines them. Then they shuffle those cards together multiple times while pausing the action. Her cards can now show up on the flop.

If however, she has called out specific cards from her hand that she folded, those cards will be searched for and removed from the stub if found before shuffling the remaining cards.

Stranger things have happened in the crazy world of circus games...

multiple times in a casino setting?! Isn't it standard dealer procedure to hold onto the stub at all time?

Yes. But I was a former dealer, floorman, and poker room manager, and then played full time professionally for over a decade, so I've seen A LOT of hands. Enough hands to encounter this exact scenario many times. Probably dozens of times. It just happens sometimes.
