First legal cannabis, now this? Rub it in.

Meanwhile, in Tennessee Our House and Senate passes a bill to legalize online sports betting. Brick and mortar places to bet were kept illegal, because "everyone knows muggers and rapists wait outside of casinos".

Well everyone but the police, otherwise they would just patrol there and stop such crimes.

Meanwhile, one Representative added a rider that no betting could take place on holidays or Sundays. The reason is obvious. If Jesus saves, but Nikita Kucherov gets the rebound and scores, that would make hockey the Anti-Christ.

Anyway, the bill still passed (without the rider) but was left on the Governor's desk, unsigned. A simple delay tactic. Per the law it eventually became law.

But wait, there's more. There is a provision in the bill that says that the first bet is permitted there must be a regulatory board of appointees.

The bill passed into law in April, and went into effect July 1st. We're still waiting for the appointees. Continuing the delay tactic...

Wow... surprised a casino or operator hasn’t sued the state yet for dragging their feet with the appointments. It would seem they definitely have standing.

Sorry to hear it. That sucks.

Since neither a casino nor an operator has a foothold in the state, I think it just coasts by quietly.

On the plus side, my NFL picks this year have been terrible (61% correct), so I'm after vig I'm probably better off right now.

It is interesting that Colorado is so "progressive" with being a leader in legalizing MJ and now sports betting. I would think states like CA would be a leader in stuff like this and central US would be more conservative.

Keep in mind... a huge chunk of our newer residents are coming from California. This is likely leading the progressive push into new directions.

But our state’s conservative history also means we don’t suffer from the same burdensome/restrictive regulatory morass that California does. It makes for an interesting (freer?) business landscape where folks/entrepreneurs/government can (and are willing to) try new/different things.

It really is a fascinating time for Colorado.

Yeah for sure. This makes me want to go there. I already liked Colorado because of the landscape and nature and stuff. Now there is legal sports betting. Seems to good to be true!

Yeah my wife wants me to sell the cabin and buy a place in AZ...no f@cking way.

Colorado is on our list for relocating, though I really wish I was in a position to have a place in Washington, Arizona, and Colorado.

snowboarding is probably my favorite thing in life, it wold be incredibly tough to leave these mountains but if we went to Colorado I would get to pick which area I wanted to live in so that wouldn’t be a bad second place to the cascades.

My driveway is a pretty good snowboard run...
