Christmas Traditions (1 Viewer)

As a kid, I was allowed to open my stocking while I waited for everyone to get up.

At all ages, it was my job to "deliver" the gifts from the tree to the recipient. Then we'd all watch them open, oh, ah, etc. Then next gift. Even as a little one, I knew how to balance and stretch it out. One for me. One for my mom. One for me. One for my dad. One for me. One for my brother. One for me. Etc.

Now, as an adult and no parents on this realm, my family makes donations to charity in the family's name. This year, I sent $ to the Alzheimer's association. Both because I lost my mother to Alzheimers and because if they raise $1 million by the end of the month, they have a donor that will add another $1 million.

Lastly, I've gained the perspective that for PZ and other close people I give the gift when I find it and it feels right.

Ours are all pretty basic - We have anyone who has nothing to do on Christmas eve over to our house for a game night. We play now you have it - now you dont with a dollar gift. Some people get very creative with the gifts. Then bingo with the kids. After that we send the kids off for an hour and play LCR for a bit with just adults. Before bed I still read Twas the night before Christmas to my kids. In the morning I make cinnamon buns before we head to the inlaws for the rest of the day.

Every Christmas Eve my daughter gets a pair of Christmas Pajamas...shes always excited for them.

My family is hard to get together since my grandparents moved away/passed on or became grumpy.

One tradition at the holidays no matter what one was poker. The guys and sometimes one aunt much to the dismay of one of the uncles after dinner would all BS and play poker with awful plastic interlocking red, white and blue chips. The kids...well we would sit and watch and fetch adult beverages for them. When we got older but still to young for the table our red white blue and yellow legos got turned into poker bricks and the cousins would throw down...while still fetching beer for the guys of course. Our mothers where all cool with it because men should play poker.

Messed up eh?

Nowadays to get my brothers and sisters from multiple marriages together we do a shitty white elephant and dinner with some drinking by those who feel like it.

When the basement is lit and the table is ready...Poker is back!
