Hey what's up everybody? I actually signed up on there back in 2020 and purchased some Paulson's from another user, which I had been looking for to add to my set. I never really posted though, so it looks like I'm restricted from commenting on other conversations...so I figured I'd try to be more active, and make a post saying hello.

I used to have some killer home games back in the early 2000's in Virginia, so I decided to buy a nice set. I had played with the Tangiers brass chips at a different home game I went to, and really liked them so I picked some up. I loved the way they look and feel, but once you stack about 10 or more, they start to wobble, and if the table moves at all, the stacks tip over...it because a pain in the ass. I decided to sell those (I kept a few for myself, which are shown below), and upgrade to Paulsons. This was around 2005 or so, and Paulson was phasing out public sales, but you could still find them through online vendors at (compared to now) pretty reasonable prices. To accommodate our $0.25 / $0.50 home games, I wound up with a set of mixed denominational and non-denominational chips, which kind of bothers me now on an OCD level, but at the time it was the best option to be able to get this set.

Sadly though, I moved out of the area a few months after making the upgrade, and haven't found any players in the places I've lived to start up another home game. So they've pretty much sat in the case their entire lives, except for a couple of times that I've oiled them so they won't dry out.

A couple of years ago I found this site, and also YouTube videos by "hobbyphilic", and started getting into chips on a collector level. I've learned a lot, and now really enjoy nerding out on the intricate details of the chips. I'll go to casinos now and analyze their chips, figure out if it's a Paulson or not, study the inlay and stamps, etc. I love it. It seems like a pretty expensive rabbit hole to go down, so I haven't pulled the trigger on a second set yet, I'm still looking around trying to see what I like / want, or if I'm content to admire them from afar.

With all that said; it seems like back when I bought my chips was the golden era of casino quality clay chips being made for, and sold to the public. Now, it seems like Classic Poker Chips is seen to be the highest quality clay chips on the market, but to be honest, the slightly inconsistent size, shape, coloring, etc. is a bit of a turn off to me. So I'm curious, is there another company out there that's producing high quality, Paulson-like chips today that I'm missing? I don't think there is, and it's pretty disappointing.

Anyway, I'd say that's about enough typing for now. Look forward to chatting with some of you in the future!

There will be slight inconsistencies in color over different batches, but not within the same order.
Other slight inconsistencies is due to it being a hand made product, it’s suppose to be there! Part of the charm. You want completely generic chips, there are sluggos/china clays/ceramics to choose instead.

No, they are it when we’re talking about selling to the home market.

Howdy and welcome. I agree with ADS, there are a lot of N TX folks on here, and it seems like there are some opportunities to play around the area.

Welcome!

Yeah I hear ya. I actually ordered some samples from CPC of the Atlantic set, and they're not bad, but they just don't feel the same as Paulsons. They're the best I've found that's available now though. Anything other than clay feels kind of cheesy to me (just personal preference). I did get some samples of the Majestic chips from Apache (China Clay), and I really dig the design and feel of them even though they're cheap. I've thought about getting a set of them, but everytime I look, they're out of stock on like half the denominations. After struggling for years to find Paulson Pharaohs to add to my set, I'm skeptical about trying to start a new set that seems to always be out of stock.

Anyway, I appreciate the info. Do you have a set of CPC? If so I'd love to see some pics if you have them.

Hi & welcome. Not sure about mid-cities, but quite a few N. TX folks here.
Yeah I was seeing a lot of posters from around here, and actually on one thread found a conversation about many of them here that were also from VA originally. Seemed like an interesting coincidence.

That's great news. I had gotten in touch with somebody on here when I originally signed up, and he said he'd put me on an email list for his home game, but I never heard back on that (which is fair, considering inviting strangers to your home is a somewhat risky move). - I recently discovered the card rooms in the area (Poker House Dallas, specifically), and I'm glad they exist, but I don't think their "membership fee + pay by the hour" model suits my somewhat tight play style very well, so I probably won't hit them up too much.

Welcome! I'm over in grapevine - if you ever get a game up and running, I'm down to play some 25/50c stuff or lower!

Sure, any excuse to post chip pics :D. FWIW imo the A-mold (used on the Atlantic) is way the worst feeling mold. Too rough finish.

For a classic Vegas look & feel the H-mold is nice too. Also, LOL @Scandinavians ordering custom chips with palm trees…

Damn those are clean looking! Beautiful color choices too. I think I'm appreciating CPC a lot more after seeing this set. Thanks for posting!

Hahaha true. - I do like that mold. Is that logo printed on the chip itself, as opposed to being a separate inlay piece?
