Chip design and where to have them made (3 Viewers)

Following!

I love that you made your set based off colors of chip bags.
I think a lot of people struggle with colours, especially base vs spot colours.

But luckily in this case I have millions of dollars worth of research and marketing that tell me these colours work together! 😅

We've got a couple of palms and the left side, eh ;) I like switching them out.

If I was going .10 and .50 denoms for cash, I'd go with $1 instead of $2 and get more chips given Tina hybrids are reasonably priced. Not as efficient but moar chip!

Lots of good ideas here, I like the chips colorways and the idea of a sunset on black label as tournament set. Im just starting to try to put together a cash and tournament set of Tina’s with same fronts different backs, so the level color idea giving me a bit more to think about

And I am a fan of the .10/.50/2/10 breakdown. Must be the Commonwealth side of us Aussies and Canucks. :D
I liked that idea as well, until I realized it’s such an odd breakdown and, with inflation, is a really cheap set. If you’re playing CAD, it’s even cheaper.

You have a really awesome theme and design going, I’d just make sure you buy what you’ll actually play now and in the future.

Thanks!

And yes, I kind of agree on inflation, but, realistically it will takes years to decades for the value of the dollar to feel significantly less. Like right now we buy in for $20, and using a $0.10 big blind would make sense. It would take probably 10-20 years for $20 to feel like a lot less money.

It’s more likely that we’d sooner be earning higher incomes so that our $20 buy ins feel small. And at that point I’d probably just buy a new set for $0.25/0.25 or $0.25/0.50.

And I don’t mean to dismiss your point, I just think it’s good advice for people buying CPC or thousand dollar casino chip sets. I’m only looking to spend around $150-200 per set just for fun :)

Totally fair point!

WIP Update 🚧

Made some Paulson tool mockups of the tourney and both cash sets. The colors and spot patterns aren’t EXACTLY like they will be in the finished version (cash sets $20 and $100 will have 5 triangles instead of 4, and a few other small details), but this is just to show the chips as a visual and in stacks. I think these rough mockups are what the final chips will resemble (just with more color accurate colors/spots and my own inlay instead of the Dunes as a current placeholder.

I also very roughly drew more in the inlay suggestion that @Colquhoun made with the sunset, but I personally feel with how small the inlay is in the 39mm Tina chips thst details would be lost and squished. I feel it would work much better as a full art on BR Pro chip instead. I feel that would look pretty cool.

I’ve also been thinking about making a light blue plaque with the green being an “island green”, just floating in the ocean/Lake Ontario (😉). Here’s a very rough drawing of that, you’ll have to use your full imaginations lol. And of course I took big inspiration from @Okku’s inlay he made me (the chip on the left). I kind of like the “cartoony” look, but I’m not sure if it really goes with the rest of the chips.

Anyway, that’s all for now! Any thoughts?

Just wanted to upload a V2 mockup (with a V1 designed inlay) done in the Chipmatic tool:

The inlay needs to be bigger overall and the fonts definitely need to be bigger. Planning on having the main font bolder and closer to the original Dunes font, should help balance the inlay. Will also be comparing having denoms as "50,000" vs "50K" for legibility.

For the Tourney set I made the edge spots more consistent to have 4 "main" groupings whereas in the Cash set I always planned on them being more individual and unique to each other. One little easter egg in the Cash set is the edge spot groupings will flow in numbers by "par" in golf (eg. 5c has 3 spots, 25c chip has 4 spots, then 4, 3, 5...like a golf courses holes would be laid out)

Any thoughts are welcome!

Anyone have any guesses how close the colours will turn out to be similar in real life?

I’m new so I don’t know as much about chip design as other forum members, but I actually like how they all came out. I just don’t like them all in the same set. Too much green and yellow (which comes across as more greens). There are two instances where there’s no green present at all but then you put blue and yellow together which makes green. The black, two purples, and brown have no green at all but make extensive use of yellow.

Having a single accent color appear on every chip has been done but you should decide if you want it to be yellow or green.

Also I would use the same edge spots everywhere or use different edge spots everywhere, not a mix of both.

Appreciate the feedback! I do agree in general with the colors not being “perfect” but I wanted to only use chips that I actually like in real life lol, for example, I could have made a grey chip based on a Salt and Pepper lays chip, but I just don’t like that flavor of chip lol.

And it also happens that a lot of chips they I eat are made by the same company who use similar colours and designs so the chips kind of naturally share the same colours which I’m ok with overall to stay true to the theme and actually have chips I like :)

Also, it doesn’t show here in the inlays, but the last three chips are actually Rebuy and Bounty chips, the green Rebuy matches the green plaque and the blue chip matches the blue plaque :)

For the edge spots, I debated having the same spots or not, but ultimately I liked having some of them that actually resemble the chips themselves and also, since it’s fully customizable I wanted to kind of go all out and make it “more fun” and interesting. That’s why in the end I have 4 edge spot groups to give it some continuity but not being identical :)

If it isn't a rough draft, I'd remove the circle around the outside of the inlay.
And that circle is unlikely to look like that when printed anyway. Tina will reduce the art slightly to make that border larger, to prevent it getting too close to the edge. Unless the label is cut perfectly (they never are), a thin border along a cut line is problematic.

Yes you are correct :)

I just tried uploading the picture I was drawn from Okku into the chipmatic tool and that line showed up. So in the final version that won’t be there and everything will be sized up

Good to know!

I’m leaving all of those details up to Okku lol, trusting him here as I just do the drawings ha

That makes sense. I forgot that you were trying to match real life brand colors. I got lost in the color
Yup, absolutely valid in the colour thoughts you had, I’ve just limited myself to the colours of chips I like. There are also a decent amount of posts in this thread so it’s easy to get lost lol

Of this T500 set, which T100K chip colour do you like best in the two line ups? Blue or Pink?

I originally made the pink, but I worry it’s too close to the T500 purple chip. It’s very unlikely they’d both be in play at the same time, but if they ever were together it could be a very costly dirty stack issue lol. The blue obviously stands out better, but I feel the pink “fits” the set better.

Thanks!

I think the blue chip is nice but I wish the dark blue edge spots were something brighter that gave a little more pop especially if this is supposed to be your biggest denom. The black and yellow edge spots on the pink chip have good contrast which I like, and in a vacuum I like the pink chip better. I think the pink is different enough that it shouldn't be getting mixed up with blurple especially with those black spots and so far apart in denom but the blue would definitely avoid dirty stacks.

Decided to download Inkscape and try to do this myself...

As my first attempt at making a vector file and doing it in a few hours I think it looks okay to me, but does anything stand out as terrible? I know the little black fonts are quite small but this was a first attempt and now my eyes hurt from staring at my screen so intently so tomorrow I will make some changes. I made a version without the "Est. 2025" but the T500-5000 looked kind of naked or like they were missing something...but maybe I've looked at it too much.

Any thoughts?
