I am looking to purchase and create a chipset for tournaments for a single table (10 players max, usually 6-9 players) (1 Re-Entry if possible) that would run 3-5 hours on average. I am also looking to see if I could make a chipset where no color ups would be needed and I could purchase somewhere around 300-500 chips if that is possible. I tried to use a chip calculator but it was not working for me to calculate how many chips I would need and suggested blinds I should use. Any suggestions?

May I ask why you don’t want color-ups?

Color ups are useful to keep stacks manageable as they consolidate in a tournament.

Basic 300 chip breakdown for 10 players.

80/80/40/80/20 of T25/100/500/1000/5000

Allows for 10 stacks of 8/8/4/7 totalling T10k. (This also includes extra T1000 that would be handy for color ups if needed, and extra T5k for rebuys.)

If you instead did T5000 starting stacks the tournament would end with the big blind at about 2K or 3k

50-100
75-150
100-200
150-300 (could color T25)
200-400
300-600
400-800
600-1200
800-1600 (could color T100)
1000-2000 (probable end with T5K start)
1500-3000 (color T500)
2000-4000
3000-6000 (probable end with T10K start)
4000-8000

14 levels, if you did 20 minutes a level this would come in at 4:40 minutes plus breaks.

I think you can get away with no color ups for a single table tournament, but why would you want to? In theory, having four racks of chips on the table is no big deal. But, at some point those small chips will become practically useless. I say practically because there will always be one or two dinks who will count out 10 or 12, or 20 small chips to make a bet. And you can bet that it's always some dink who sucks at counting out chips. You don't want to put up with that crap. And the only way to avoid it is to take them off the table.

Coloring up is half the fun. Get those green chips off the table and bring in a new more exciting color. Im usually hammered by color up time but never to hammed to figure out coloring up those greens. And if its easiest just to round up i dont think players will mind.

I've gone to the T100 based tournaments because the greens last maybe 4-5 levels before they're obsolete. IMO its easier to start with a slightly bigger stack and you don't have to race off the 100's for 8 rounds or so.

SS for 15k = 10/8/10

100 x T100
80 x T500
100 x T1000
20 x T5000

Use the T5000's for rebuys (~6 available)
