I have a CDM set that I purchased back in the early 90's with a silver/blue 500 denomination. On another thread I've had people comment that they've never seen the 500 or at least the 500 with that color. Has anyone else seen 500's like this? Any info on this these would be greatly appreciated.

They re-used colours and spot patterns for different denominations.

The 500 chip you see here (Metallic Gold base with blue spots) is most commonly seen on the 200 or 200,000 denominated CdM. They tended to use the same colour/spot combos for their "n" and "n x 1000" denoms.

I've never seen a silver CdM, or any silver base chip used in any Paulson fantasy set.

Got any pics?

Yeah, I had a rack of those. 99% sure it was 200s

It looks silver-ish to me but I see others refer to them as metallic gold. There is a pic attached to the original post.

I've seen the 200 and 200K. I'm wondering why they used the same color/spot combo for both the 200 and 500. Maybe they changed denominations for different production runs?

Paulson duplicated the base color/spot patterns on several chips in that set. Gold 200/200k, grey 100/100k -- presumably because the denominations would never be used simultaneously.

Paulson also used many of the CdM color/spot combos in their other fantasy sets, to minimize the number of combos that would otherwise not be available for casino use. Casino combos are unique to each casino and cannot be used elsewhere.

Yes, that chip posted in the OP is Metallic Gold. Paulson also makes a Metallic Silver. Both metallic colors tend to tarnish quite a bit over time (especially with use), and usually end up looking dirty and darker.

Check out the Paulson Chip Color Reference in the PCF Resources section, which contains photos of all 89 colors.

The old Metallic Gold compound did not age well (I'm assuming they've made refinements since then). I've had several barrels of vintage MG hot stamped and inlaid generic roulettes and some of them had rolling edges that looked pitted and cracked (even though they weren't technically flaking off or anything, just regular roundish wear), so something in them definitely reacted with the environment over time. And no, they didn't get brighter with ultrasonic cleaning, either.

I truly appreciate everyone's input but we've kind of veered off the subject with the color discussion. I'm still trying to find out why Paulson made a 200 AND a 500 in the CDM line. Was it possibly a different production run? Why do we see way more 200s out there compared to the 500s? And why did they make a x1000 version for every denomination but the 500. Inquiring minds need to know! :)
