I got to play in a tourney this past weekend where the chips were colored, but they had no denoms listed on them. Is this a common practice for smaller casinos? It's kind of awkward at first but I eventually got over it. I'm just wondering if others have played at the casinos where the tourney chips had no denoms.

Let's talk about it!

2 sister casinos in my area, Riverside in Riverside, IA, and Rhythm City in Bettendorf, IA, both use non-denominated plastic chips. They have labels, so I couldn't figure out why they didn't put numbers on them.

I think that's what bothered me the most. It's not like the chips didn't have labels. You couldn't design a label with a denomination? LOL

Maybe it cost more to print numbers? ;)

I’ve played in a three color non denom chips. They used green 25, blue 100 and red 500. After they colored up the green 25 they used them as 1000’s. This was on a cruise ship casino.

Whoa. That’s kinda crazy. I guess the reuse is cost effective?

I guess, they were crap bleed through ceramics. It wasn’t too confusing to the players, as they were crap players who thought the only actions you could take were all-in or call, and they never cared how much was in front of them or their cards. I saw one guy call an all-in with 94 off suit because “he thought the other guy was bluffing”. He lost to the A10 off suit the guy shoved with.

It's interesting that you say that. In this tourney I played in, I noticed it was a shove fest early. I thought, "well, that's just people trying to get as many chips on the table as possible until the rebuy period ends." Even after the rebuy period was over, these guys were still shoving. 40 player tourney and once the rebuy ended, we were at the final table in less than an hour. I thought that was crazy!

I looked for the chips on the Chip Guide, but they only have the cash chips listed.
