Random question,

I've been running a home cash game now for about 6 months and one of my regulars does not like to sit to the right of me….ha.

So the other night i got him for a decent amount and he was asking if he could change seats after his next re-buy. i told him heck no.

Now, let me preface that I always randomize the seating prior to us taking our seats.

But…am I wrong? My thoughts are, one its my house my rules…..assigned seating was random and thats your seat for the night.

But do you guys allow for changing of seats in your home games?

I prefer random seating, and that's your seat. But, if I know the game is going to last for a long time, it's fun to redraw seats every few hours. That way folks can move around, no one gets stuck in a seat they don't like for the whole game, and you get to sit next to/talk to lots of different people.

I'd say if you draw for seats then people shouldn't be able to change seats.

But in games where people pick seats-first come first served, then they should be able to move whenever they want to to an open seat.
Im with you. My seating is always random, and If I was getting taken by the same guy…I wouldnt bend the rules for me.

We do this, what ever the number players we have we assign a number to the seat, we then take cards A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7,….. Mix them up face down on the table, players pick a card and that is their seat for the night… Cards speak…
I do the same thing. I use uno cards and I put the numbers 1 - 10 on the table then I put another set of 1 - 10 cards in a small black bag and everyone draws a card. You match that card to your seat at the table and thats your seat for the night

I started drawing for seats a year or two ago and am very happy with that change in the game. The last seat filled was always to my right. Players were trying to squeeze in between players to get position on someone.

As players leave we will often shift to spread out or to move toward the center of the table, but the order stays the same.

On a rare occasion if someone busts and someone else takes their seat then the busted player comes back in later, I let them pick an open seat. That would be the only way a seat change happens.

If there is another seat open, absolutely he can request a seat change.
Yeah and I don’t even think he needs to request it.
But 100% a guy can switch to any open seat in a cash game.
And FWIW, don’t be a jerkface host - if you know the guy does t like where he’s sitting, see if somebody wants to switch with him.
And a final FWIW and I know we went over this before but I maintain that for cash games, drawing for seats is a made-up home game thing which is fine is everybody likes it, but if it’s bothering somebody, you should consider accommodating people.

when the players are often the same group everyone knows who is the fish, who is aggro, tight, etc. When players purposely show up after someone else so they can get a seat to their left it affects how the game is played. In a casino there are multiple tables, a wait list with players coming and going from the game. A home game is different. The players there for the night are the only players.

By the same logic all of you would have no problem with someone winning the fist pot, busts 3 players then leaves? It is a cash game, it is allowed after all.

We place the seats around the table before the players arrive. Players take a seat when they get there. No one has ever tried to move a seat between two seated players. Just sit in an open seat. Not that difficult.

At the previous game I was running, we had one guy who was very superstitious and would be moving seats all the time, several times in a 2-3 hr session. It was obnoxious. I started making him post a blind if he wanted to move away from the blinds. He could move towards them for free. Cut back on it dramatically.

I’m a “sit where you want when you get here” game and have had one such request but it sort of abated as the players run took a different course.

I think initially I would have been a “who running from?” guy and felt they should maintain their current location.

After reading some of the responses, if a player wants to change seats I’m going to allow it.
