Hey everyone.

I was curious if there was a standard min /max buyin amount for cash games. I'm pretty confident that 100 big blinds is "standard" but what would you say is the minimum and maximum someone should be able to buyin for?

Trying to get everything figured out to start up my home game again.

In my experience it is pretty common for casinos to spread NL games which are 100BB deep.
1/2 max buyin is $200
1/3 max buy in is $300
2/5 max buy in is $500

However, it is your game so just do whatever you want.

Here’s what I would do for NLHE at my house. Not really consistent as far as bb
.25/.50: $40-100
.50/$1: $60-150
$1/$2: $100-200

Thanks for your help everyone. I figured I could go as high as I wanted.

What would you say is the minimum buyin that should be allowed? What do casinos allow?

Reason I ask is my buddies and I play a $.25/$.50 game with $20 buyin. Never thought clout it until joining this forum but it seems really low

I prefer 200 bb for NL/PL games. My limit games have unlimited buy-in amounts. Mixed NL/PL/FL games also have unlimited buy-in amounts with a 200 bb cap on NL/PL hands.

In my experience, how big a NL/PL game plays is determined by the buy-in and how the players want to play, more so than the blinds. Some .25/.50 games play more like 1/2 or even 2/5 after a few rebuys, especially when rebuys can match the big stack.

I do .25/.50 NLHE cash.
Buy in range is $20-$100, but most people just buy in at $60, which is 120BB.

People usually reload for $40-$60 or just top off $20 to keep their stack size competitive, but every now and then someone wants to short re-buy for $20.

Many would argue that the same starting stack for all is more fair; and best among friends. Hence 100BB is the most commonly acceptable and realistic starting buy-in for all; with a probable eventual max of half the big stack.
If there is a range between minimum and maximum, however (honestly, with the sole purpose of attracting people who can't really afford the stakes, just like casinos do) I 'd say something like 60 to 120, or 80 to 150 BB.

Again, there is the question about deep or not-so-deep stack poker, for a given initial buy-in of money, among friends.
With an 100$ (or Euro) buy-in you can have either a very deep .25/.50 200BB game or a normal .50/1 100BB game.

I run a 1/2 game and buy ins range from 80-200 starting out. I always get 200 but most seem to start with 100 (which is only 50bb but whatever floats there boat I guess) When people bust out they normally rebuy deeper.

My regular home game is .10/.20 with a $20 buy-in. It plays fine. I think that you are right that at $20 buy-in is too low for a .25/.50 game, unless it is understood that most players will rebuy.

Most people rebuy at least once for $20. Sometimes they don't but usually say they only have 1 buyin right at the jump.

$20 is pretty short for a .25c - .50c game but if that's what you guys like, that's great. Poker, laughs, drinks and busting chops is fun no matter the stakes.

As far as a min/max buy for .25c - 50c if you want to get slightly more official...I'd say $20 min (since everyone is comfortable with that) up to $70 or $80 max. I live in Pennsylvania and the typical $1-$2 game here is min $60, max $300 so 30-150 BBs

My $0.50-$0.50 game is $100 buy-in (200BBs) for NL/PL. I don't think I've every had someone ask to buy in for the minimum but I'd probably say $40.

$20 is rough for 25/50¢ I would suggest $50-$150

We do a $20 initial buy-in for our .25/.25 post tournament cash game. Since the tourney buy-in is $20 and there are rarely $5s around, this makes it easier. After that it's half big stack rounded down to the nearest $20. Generally we don't play much cash so this is to keep banking easy rather than putting a limit on the buy-in.

We also do 25/25¢ and I limit ours at $20-$50. Of course this forum had me get a proper bank register to hold each bill. I bring usually $100 in smaller bills to cash people out. I still have not even got any of my HP $20 chips out )-: hopefully one day my nits will open their wallet up some more.

.25/.50 $80 max, because I want to keep it easy 4x $20 bills
.50/$1 $150 max

Most of the places I have played $1/$2 allow up to $300 as initial buy in, that is where I picked up the 150x BB

What do you mean proper bank register?

We play $1/2 NL with buy-ins of $150-$300. We sometimes do $200-$400 with the right mix of players.

I always keep at least 50x 1 Euro coins to be ready, as host, and use them to buy in, to accommodate inconsiderate people like you:p

I always have a ton of change on hand. I would prefer all of my players only buy in with one hundred dollar bills. It would make things easier for me.

Oh ok that makes sense.

I used to make change for the quarters, but now we flip for them similar to how you flip for color up chips in a tournament.

I usually have 20 to 100 x 1's, 100 x 5's, and another hundred or two in twenty's lol. Maybe overkill, but I always have exact change for people (minus any quarters).
Mind you, we in the Euro Zone have to deal with coins when it comes to 1E and 2E values:rolleyes:
Appart from that, we even have 200E and 500E paper bills, the organised criminals' dream:(

Some guys juice the next hand with their extra change, some guys just round down and leave it for the house. When I cash out anywhere I usually round down to the nearest five and leave it for the house. I usually tip if I don't lose all my money. All the guys that host usually put out a solid spread, good bourbon, ect..
