Bought a CPC color sample about a month ago. Noticed some stress marks on Dayglo Orange. You can still see them in the pic below. Applied some pressure to investigate and it snapped.

Curious if this is at all common with CPCs? Obviously people love them, and it's not the end of the world. But should we assume they'll wear out if they sit around unoiled for a few months (or years?).

Just sharing. And asking so I can fine tune my maintenance plan and decide if this should factor in to my quantity of extras.

Wow! I’ve never had this happen to any of my stock set. It’s 3 years old.

They did not come with a care manual. I can’t agree they get worn and break like this because the owner failed to use and/or oil them.

Good to know. If true, I guess that means this one was just kinda defective?

I’ve seen those on the more neon-like colors occasionally. They may be in all them and only show up in those colors because of the contrast, I don’t know.

I have seen a few other peeps post about sample sets with quality compromised chips. I think CPC does that to the samples they sell. I guess most people don’t care. I think it’s ridiculous really. They aren’t that cheap and it should be higher quality in my opinion.

I’m not a CPC fanboy but I do think they are durable. Great chips.

I’d say if you went for a set, you don’t experience this

I suppose it’s odd I say “durable”

To elaborate on this comment, I have had around 12-15 games on my 1000 set. Stock Rounders.

Amazing chips! Love em! I’ve had numerous dropped chips hitting the laminate floor of my poker room, and not even a mark or a dent. No breaks. The chips shuffle like buttered bricks now. Amazing.

I feel their quality is a cut above, but they don’t do QC on samples. Perhaps just sets.

Was it hotstamped on the other side of the chip? Maybe the stress came from the hotstamping?

I had a 1000 chip drawer slide off it’s track and fall about 2 feet to the floor. A bunch of chips fell out and the drawer landed on top of about 5 of them. I was shocked to have only one chip break in half, and the rest of the chips unscathed. They seem to be very durable. I’m surprised this one snapped with just a little pressure.

Common? Not one bit imho. I’d just chalk it up to typical qc issues with samples (not that I agree with that practice). There is no need for a maintenance plan unless you feel the need to clean them after heavy use for years.

I would suggest NOT applying pressure.

I don't think you'll find many complaints of durability of CPCs, most of us order extras of each chip in case of a defect or breakage.

Luckily this sounds like a color sample, so you're still able to use it in that capacity.

It’s insane! Whether you’re selling samples at full price or whether you’re giving them away, wouldn’t you want your samples to be your best quality work? I mean, isn’t that what people are basing their purchase decisions on? It’s madness.

If too many people get great samples, that would lead to huge orders and longer wait times…er, um,

The number of people here who have CPC sets and the number of chips that that represents is huge and I have rarely if ever heard of this problem. I mean sure chips break, it happens, but it’s certainly not a common occurrence at all with this product.
