Since I have a lot of free time on my hands the next few weeks, I have time for some projects that were on hold.

  • start milling 5 racks of mint solids THC & label them (chips & most labels are in the house, still waiting on some supplies)
  • remove 4 racks of inlays (100 ES quarters & 300 uncirculated Bally's $1)
  • relabel 200 Key West chips
  • build a full size table in addition to my 7 max round table
In this thread I will post the progress on the table, the other project will also be posted soon

What do I want ?

A very nice build table with these features:
  • raised rail
  • LED lighting
  • no racetrack or chiptray
The table our new member @BmoreTerp has posted looks great, would be happy with this end result.
Only thing I would change is more depth on the raised rail inner circle (for lighting)

I would love to used diffuser strips for a very clean look but i'm afraid it will make the build more complex and sourcing them will not be easy in Belgium.
Please let me know if you have used strips in your build and how you implemented them.

So...what I have already ?

All the tools needed
Wood :)) )
Felt from @T_Chan (will design a custom one soon...for now it's one from the sale with small errors (can not find the link)

What do I still need ?

Building plan: working on it...but could use some examples/sizes and feedback from other builds (9-10 players)
Pedestal: looking at recovering one from an old table (second hand & recycle stores)
Padding playing surface
Padding for the rail
Vinyl for the rail

These are the foams I can order: Foam
These are the vinyls I can order: Vinyls
(sorry for the non English site)

Most of the vinyls are 140 cm (55 inches) so max width of the rail will be 130 cm (50 inch)

Looking forward to the build but first I need to get all my supplies sourced.
To prevent buying/building twice...I want to try this first time right

Hope to gather the info I need to make that happen :)

Another reason to make an oval as round-ish as possible, IMO. Go for the maximum width and minimum length which would make a total that can provide a 580-610cm circumference (to accomodate 10 at 58-61cm each).
If you 're going to be using it as dining table too, with a dining top, make sure to get the hardest and most durable foam for the rail.
Good luck man!:)

First, I appreciate the kind words in reference to my build. I’m new around here and I’m sure some of the more experienced builders will chime in as well.

To get you started, I based my table off the:
http://www.buildyourownpokertables.com/
Raised rail plans. I downsized the table to 42x84 for a comfortable 8 person and a squeeze to 9 or so. If looking for full 10 person most recommendations here are slightly longer, but generally in the 44” width range.

They also have plans and YouTube videos at BYOPT Poker including a lighted table. My understanding is that around here they may not be felt as the best plans, but I’m happy with my modified result. If I can help in any way please let me know. Good luck! Looking forward to seeing your build!

The "standard" size I typically recommend for a 10 person oval is 92"x44", which provides for just about 23.5" of rail space per player. You essentially cut 4" off both the long and short sides of a 4'x8' sheet of plywood (standard plywood size here in the US, not sure about oversees) and go from there.

Do you have a home improvement or hardware store readily available? The plastic for the light diffusers are just the clear plastic piece that covers standard office fluorescent light fixtures. I know you don't have home depots there but this is the type of product you're looking for:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/24-in-x...c-Lighting-Panel-5-Pack-LP2448ACC-5/202653804

Going with a lit raised rail for a full felt table is a little more challenging than one with a racetrack, as the best way of installing the diffuser is for it to sit in a small channel that's routed into the base wood piece. That approach doesn't work for a full felt table because there's no exposed wood base piece. What I've done in the past was to go with a "mini" or "micro" racetrack option, where the racetrack is only an inch or two wide and purely for looks and to be able to install the diffuser as described above:

To do this with a full felt table, one approach is to manufacture a slot for the diffuser by sandwiching it between the edge of the playing surface and an outer ring on the table, like shown below.

here's the "exploded" version showing how the table would go together / come apart

I didn't go through both sites completely, but this vinyl appears to be similar to some of the nicer vinyls stateside. They indicate the vinyl is flexible and soft, which is typically how whisper vinyl is described. Well that's what google translator said :)

https://www.schuimrubberbetaalbaar....0/kunstleer-bull-fango-140-cm-breed_1981.html

For the foams, most of what I saw on the site you posted capped out at 200cm long, which isn't going to be long enough to do a rail in one piece. They mention they can do custom cutting, maybe give them a call and see if they can provide a sheet that's longer. If that's not an option you can cut the foam and assemble the pieces to cover the whole area, using cotton batting or dryer sheets to help cover the seams. In general, you want a high density foam that's about 1" thick for the rail.

For the playing surface foam, check out local upholstery/craft stores, hopefully you can find something that comes in rolls, you really don't want a seam in the playing surface foam. Suited speed cloth may hide it, but if you're using gaming suede, the seam will almost definitely show. Typically I use 1/4" thick high density for the playing surface.

Good luck, building your own table is a ton of fun!

Thanks a lot for posting fella's...we are off to a good start :)

This was a great idea! It helped me with my build. I made some on the fly modifications. I did a full 96x48. Going wider added more space to each player spot and still enough room for a dealer to pull in all the chips.

Bump....

All my murder works are finished and waiting on delivery to start relabeling 600 chips.

So in the meanwhile going build another table :)

Bought 3 sheet of 18mm (3/4 inch) ply and already have a felt from Tony.
For padding the playing surface, i'm going with neoprene (3mm or 3/32 inch)
For padding rail i'll use 40mm (1.5 inch) polyether foam
Need to do some more research to find the best vinyl to work with (local), I would prefer a suede rail :)

I want to build the same table Fabian made for the HFCC chips...played often on it and it was a dream
So raised rail, lighting, no racetrack or cupholders

I'll build it with folding legs first, once the poker room is ready...it well get an equal nice base (casino style with rail)
Also going to build 3 or 4 drink carts after the table is done.

Some questions...

I'll cut my sheets tomorrow...but still doubtfull on size.
I would prefer a 7/8 sized table (9 with squize), less real estate is more in self dealing home games)
My felt is 90"x38" with a betting line size of 72"x20"

1568408293367.png

Max width of the rail foam is 120cm (47inch) but could do 2 pieces
Max width of the vinyl is 140cm (55 inch)
Max width of the neoprene is 100cm (39 inch)

Based on all this info...what would be the ideal size ?

Allrighty...time for an update :)

I've started on new table !

Size was based on the felt from Tony, so I want for 96x44 (243.5x111.5) for the EU readers)
Rail is done and almost done with the lip (first cut second board).
I'll have to cut my riser blocks and a second cut in the second board and the woodwork is done :)

Also went to pick up my padding for the playing surface..but wanted to feel and check the 3 possible options (neoprene/EPDM/NBR).
I went with 3mm neoprene and this is the perfect padding for a table.

Foam for the rail is ordered (HR SG 52 (cold foam), 1 inch (2.5cm) custom cut (245x115x2.5)
Waiting on some samples to order the vinyl.

I'll shoot some pictures tomorrow (too dark atm)

After more work then expected...i'm finaly finishing my full ring table.

To do:
- fixing the rail to base
- apply sticker on plexi light rail (black with :clubs: :diamonds: :hearts: :spades: Midnight Jazz Club :clubs: :diamonds: :hearts: :spades: cut-out
- build/buy legs (no folding ones)
- build 4 or 5 drink carts
- overhead light fixture (alike build with plexi & leds (oval shape)

Untill then...some temp table pr0n :)

Looking good! What did you do at the seams for the diffuser? I saw there was thread on it but I didn’t really like any of those solutions

Sorry man...totaly missed your post.
I used milky white plexi (3 mm), the shop cut a larger plate in strips.
less then $30 for material & cutting.

Great product to work with (sturdy & flex).
I finished my table except a few small details.

Hey, love this table, I'm in the EU too (for a little while longer anyway), wondering who you used for foam and vinyl? I'm about to use the lockdown to build my own table. Already have the cloth from Tony...

The foam I got via my brother (in law) his work, the vinyl I purchased locally.
There is a Joan's store in Holland (click) I could help you with the order since it's only in dutch...they do have vinyl & foam.

Shoot a PM if you need more help/info

Have fun...great time to build stuff

Thanks mate, great info. I'm going to do what I didn't do before ordering my chips and get samples. 3 or 4 different foams for the playing surface, 1 or 2 for the rail and loads of vinyl. There's a UK supplier, similar to Joan's that offers all of the options so I'll look them up I think. I see some people using carpet underlay for the playing surface too....so many options, samples is the only way I think.

This is a great looking table. Unfortunately I do not have the complete tool accompaniment to build from scratch... unless I borrow... however I can troubleshoot some of the tables I have that need some TLC (patching shuffler holes etc, find solid legs, etc.).

Whats the story behind the bat and the jazz club theme? @Thomacetti

Great work!

Shoot a pm to @Irish...he can already help you out with foam density (should be universal) and many other build info.
And he is an awsome guy

Great work!

Thanks, the Midnight Jazz Club is my personal theme, I created a BCC set with custom hotstamps (micro cash)

The bat on the felt...has no relation. I was ordering a custom felt at @T_Chan Tony but first tried one of his error sales (small faults in the printing).
Since me and the players are loving this one...we'll wear it out before I order the custom one.

loving the chips! was it a pain doing the stamping... not quite sure about hot stamping... I have a set of chips I inherited and would like to hot stamp the matching chips I acquired to get the set unified...

awesome chips wow!

Man I love hotstamps...if money was no object! This site is so dangerous! I haven't even received my Muertos yet and I'm already tempted by something else....only held onto my Dunes cc's for 2 months  :ROFLMAO:

If I'm ever back in Belgium I'd love to come see all these in the flesh/clay!

Thanks for the tip Re: @Irish I've admired his build thread in the past, I'll get in touch.

Congrats on starting your own build. I'm almost done with my own table! Happy to share info as you need. Edit: congrats on finishing! Looks awesome!!!!

Oval 9 cup + dealer area with chip tray and cup, 8x4, folding with wheels. No raised railing, but decorative optional layer of wood underneath. BuildYourOwnPokerTables was a tremendous resource for me throughout this process but they really slack on details and modifications so I had to figure all that out myself.

Take your time with the project and make sure your upholstery, especially for the railing, is tight!!

With your desire for a higher raised railing, all you have to do is purchase thicker overall wood so that you can stack and secure. Have you considered giving players phone chargers or putting cameras in the railing while you're at it? I have also heard that people like to have custom inner railing designs. That might be something to look into if you have the time and budget since it sounds like you're going all out.

How wide is your dealer cutout area on this table? How tall is the raised/lit rail on this table?
