So Both of these sets are being offered to me at the same price and I'm not sure which to choose. I know the Big Easy chips as allforcharity had some sample sets going around and my local casino used the same series chips as well. The R.T Plastics look nice but I have no experience with them. The only thing I could find for pricing and info was a defunct listing for a 500 chip set at apache for $350.

Can anyone offer a little more info on the R.T Plastics chips? If you were in my shoes, which would you go for and why?

I have to vote for S2 Bud Jones here..

I have no relevant experience with RT Plastics. Don't even know what those are...

So perhaps my opinion is useless. I'm a total dummie and a noob, but I've handled the S2s, and was close to buying them once, I just haven't been able to make the jump to high quality plastics.

Mostly, I've always read and seen senior members refer to Bud Jones, as the highest quality plastics you can get.

For me, now that I have Abiatti in hand...I'm voting for a tie between B&G, and Abiatti.
But Bud Jones are nice too.

I was just site searching for info on RT Plastics chips and came across the Russian Casino Chips vendor and saw the Abiattis he had up earlier in the year. They look amazing!

I like Bud Jones better than RT. Only RT I have handled are the Jimmie G chips, At least I belive those were RT

I have also never handled RT Plastics, so I can't comment. But I have a Big Easy set, it's pretty nice. Fun inlay, good feel on the unweighted S2 chips. Not sure what the RT Plastics set looks like, but that would probably play a role in my decision as well.

I'd save for a clay set because I prefer clay over plastic.
I wanted to say this, but he's on a strict budget. Not sure he can get a quality clay set to serve his purposes for $350

EDIT : in retrospect however, I also joined last year and balked at the $2/chip prices. Now look at me....

I would love to, but as I learned with my Gemaco Supreflex playing cards a couple years back...rednecks don't give a shit about your nice stuff. They will get food residue, scratches on cards and intentionally throw them. Chips they don't treat any better!

I am fully expecting to have to wash my poker chips after every game. Literally dunk them in the sink or in my mini washing machine with dish soap. Plastic is better for cleaning and holding up to drops/scratches.

Avoid RT Plastic chips. Have played with them in a few casinos. They're not much better than the low end plastic chips you find at Walmart/Target/etc.

If your players are that rough/disrespectful of your gear just buy the cheap low end stuff.

Thanks for the heads up on the RT Plastic chips. That the colors seem painted on was a bit of a red flag to me, but I thought maybe I could be wrong. So it's looking like big easy or wait for the big Paulson sale that is going down in a couple weeks and seeing what the prices are like.

I'd say wait for the Paulson sale. If you can swing the extra cost you'll be much happier with Paulsons.

Well the last sale was .49 for the lower denom chips, at that price it's actually cheaper than the $350 for 500. Who needs 25's and hundos anyways? :p

don't expect .49. these chips are in better shape than the roadhouse chips. I expect more like .79 for the more used low denom primaries

Yeah, you definitely need to temper your expectations for this upcoming sale, it's highly unlikely they'll go for 49¢ per chip. That's the price for well worn dirty used $1s and $5s (think bike tires and covered in grime).

At recent sales the mint chips been priced starting at $1.49.

On the bright side, it looks like there's a very large volume of chips available so they won't sell out instantly. Also, the denoms you're looking for are always easier to obtain. Most people are always shooting for the tourney denoms. Well, tourney denoms for most people except the high rollers who actually use the $1k and up chips for cash games.

RIP my dream of owning Paulsons

Aesthetics are subjective, but between the two I definitely think the Big Easy is a better-looking design. It's much more interesting and attractive. The edge spots are different on each denomination, but the spots still tie together across the entire set.

Don't let people talk you into chips that are outside your budget. There are great chips that you'll enjoy all across the price spectrum. Buy what you can afford now and enjoy the benefits of owning them now. Buy more expensive ones later, when you can set aside a larger budget, if you still feel like you need to have them.

Lol a tiny bit more than my budget? The cheapest chip is the 25's at 1.49 ea, which makes it more than double the RTs or the Buds. I'm getting the impression that poker chips, much like Magic Cards and other collectibles have been bought up and turned into an industry for old guys to use as an investment vehicle they can have fun while hoarding once they hit 40+.
