I love the breakdown of

Because it also a good breakdown for 25/25, 50/50, 50/$1 if the group felt the game stake is too big or too small, they can always adjust accordingly

They can always adjust and add on if they want more chips in the workhorse denominations in the future too

with 600 chips you could add extra $1 and $5 chips for rebuys and just a barrel of $100s that you will probably never need.
Like others have said tho 25/50 or 50/50 plays the same, and you need less 50s

The reasons for why the end game cash is so much different is maybe because whale and degenerate don’t like to play with nits on the same table.

I have $1/2 game that have over $12-15k end game and $1/$2 that only have $5k end game because of that

Personally, I prefer more chips on the table … I would add a racks of quarters and a barrel

I think $20s are great for $0.25/0.50 games … but I prefer $25s for $1/2 and higher

Frankly, that's a terrible breakdown for 25/50c stake, likely 30% of the chips will never be in play.

Any of the other suggested breakdown in this thread will work a lot better

every game and every group is different (as you can see from the responses lmao)

for my group, $1s see the most action with $5s not too far behind. $20s come out toward the end of the night for reloads, even if we have $5s left....just because.

Set breakdown always depends on the players…

Some 25/50c games will only get $1500 on the table…

The last 25/50c game I played in had $4k on the table…

And some of these PCF degens 25/50c games have $15K on the table

The only right answer is what works best for your degens. Everyone can give a correct answer for their game, not yours.

This is the perfect breakdown for 1000 chipes.

At my 25¢/50¢ game last weekend, I had the following ready for each of two tables:

25¢ x 100
$1 x 100
$5 x 200
$20 x 100

The kiddie table didn’t even use a full rack of $5s. Not much over $500 in play at that table.

The big boy table got in all of the $5s and $20s, and we put in play $5s and some $20s from the kiddie table’s racks. Well over $4k in play on the big boy table.

You will never need that many 20s. My favorite breakdown suggestion is 100/300/160/40 of 0.25/1/5/25. Singles really are the the workhorse at this stake, but I do like to play with bigger stacks, admittedly. This gives you a bank of $1925 (add $75 of small bills and you know your box always has a smooth $2000)

(I get that others are of the opinion a barrel of singles per player is plenty and doing the rest in fives, meaning something like 100/200/260/40 makes sense to them.)

But in any case 100 twenties is way overkill 40 for this stake is plenty.

I think $20s make sense in games where the workhorse chip is the single. (Namely Big blind under $1 or limit games) I think it's more about chip-for-chip transactions (players tend to stack in 20s so having a $20 denom chip is easier for coloring up singles) than it is about chips-for-cash. In higher games, I think using twenty-fives and hundreds make more sense. (By a similar token in higher games where the five may be the workhorse, say using a $1 BB and higher, the hundred becomes the natural color up chip again because of stacking in 20s.)

To be clear, I am saying the existence of the $20 bill or the non-existence of the $25 bill are irrelevant to the discussion, even though that point is often cited, I don't personally find it relevant or useful. Once you go down the road of chips-for-cash, these transactions are always a sum of chips for a sum of bills, almost never one chip for one bill. If a player wants to cash out two 20s, eleven 5s, and thirteen singles, I am not going to pay him out one note per chip. I am going to pay out the same way I would if the same player cashes out two 25s, nine 5s, and thirteen singles, using as few notes as possible from what's available in the bank.

Maybe our games play different, I have never had a 0.50-0.50 game I've hosted exceed $2000. I've had 0.50-1 go over that total.

If I somehow felted the entire set, I would use big chips from another set. This justifies my degenerate urges to carry so many sets. Hehe

Here is my break down

20 x 40
100 x 10

I have more chips than this but I focus on efficiencies. This is what I like on the table. I start putting 20s in after I have 2 racks of 5s in the game. Mostly rebuys. I typically have 5 or 6 100s on the table at the end of the night.

Largest Preflop pot $180, largest pot $1400, typically we have 2 - 2.5k on the table later in the night.

Although that entirely depends on the chip set in question. No price/cost difference for customs, re-labels, or stock sets (CC, ceramics, plastics) that include a $20 in the line-up.

This thread has highlighted one thing for sure - some of you should stop bothering with fracs and .25/.50 stakes at all. "Degen" is not the word for getting 10k+ on the table, it just means you are playing with too small of blinds.
