So Im hosting a tournament

Starting stack is 50.000
If you show up before tournament starts or transfer the buy-in before hand you get 5.000 added to your stack.

There is one re-entry available

What option is most fair for the re-entry

no bonus for re-entry. You are only giving the "bonus" 5k for people that are early/on time, no reason a buy-back and/or add-on should get extra chips

I agree, I think I was just overthinking it.

One might think that re-entry should be the same stack as most players have to give the re-entry a fair chance

The way I do at my tourneys, is that there are tow bonuses, the On-time Bonus is a one-time bonus, and the exact Change Bonus is cumulative, so it comes with each Buy-In/Rebuy/Add-on

I'd say no Bonus chips for rebuys if the bonus is about being on time. But if you have a Bring the exact change Bonus, well I think it should still be given.

I like the way my bonuses work, because you can get up to 25% of the initial stack by being on time and bringing the exact change.

Yeah the bonus is to minimize table movement in the start, players that have already paid get a stack right away on the table and other players want to show up early pay cash and get a seat in the beginning.

It sucks to start a three table tournament with 6 players so Im just testing this out and see if I can get cleaner start.

Just joking here, kinda, but what if you said you would start when you had 15 players. I just say this because nobody wants to be the one everyone is waiting on.
But if they know it will start anyway without them, they may not get prepared as early as they should, because to them - nobody's waiting on them.

Just a thought. Maybe if they knew/felt it depended on them they might be more punctual than thinking it doesn’t matter. Dunno.

That is definitely one way to look at it, there are always some players that prefer to show up in the late reg and then there are those who are always fashionably late ‍
