Board Gamers Poker Chip Interest Thread (1 Viewer)

I want some of these. I like both the trains and the tracks. Why not trains on one side and the tracks on the obverse?!?

I prefer the colored labels rather than the monochrome. I'm fine with the color combinations, and will want all the denominations except the 0.25 chips --- might order those as blank and label as bounty or something.

Most likely the labels will all be one color. Also, thinking about removing the crown mold and adding a small train.

No currency symbol, a 20 denomination, nice edge spots, no fake casino artwork. This is going to be a winner! Regardless of whether they'll have a crown, train or track mold.

But I still have the feeling there's some room for improvement. I'm not a designer so I can't pinpoint the exact reason, but the artwork of the Paulson Noir chips (see below) works slightly better IMO. Maybe I just like black backgrounds better (like Jack's or Horseshoe Cincinatti/Cleveland chips). Or maybe it's that light (center) to dark (label edge) gradient on the Apache labels that's bugging me.

Those Paulson's are pretty! If the gray 5,000 chip were relabeled to 20, they would be practically perfect. The only other change I would make would be adjusting the edge spots on the gray chip. Maybe use the style of those on the 25 using black and white for the colors.

Interested... probably ~600 set of blanks.

Which set of color/edgespot combos will this set go with? The 7 chips or 11 chips?

What's the ETA on this set? Holiday season?

Not really digging that train mold. Something seems missing with the that track mold. Maybe an outer concentric circle?

Here is the entire set with the track mold. We made some small color changes and tried to make the denominations more visible.

Looks great! Colored version looks better (no surprise), and an interesting difference in focus between that and the prior black-text colored version. I think I prefer the earlier black-text colored version. This provides great contrast for the numbers but at the cost of a harsh transition from edge to label.

Those edge spots are a bit out of control. I fear not being able to tell the colors apart and will have to see a sample stack.

Best design iteration so far; especially the colored ones. Good job!

This is probably just due to being a mock-up, but it looks like the train track mold is not centered radially between the inlay and the edge of the chip.

Just thought I'd point it out so Apache can add it to their list of things to check for.

I assume that the intent with the varied edgespots is to put some distance between these and the majestics, but I think these go too far—the majestics are an excellent impementation of color and edgespots. People seem to like the railroad theming, but I think that is on the nose. They should be “money” or bank themed if anything.

Bags with $$$$ on them!

Bags would be similarly on the nose, but the idea behind the pattern shown on the label is intended to convey wealth, so extending that theme vs bringing in the railroad one.

It’s not like railroads had their own money bills/coins.

It's not a major sticking point for me, but I agree with this argument. I would probably prefer a flourishy, leafy mold like the one used with the Paulson Noirs over the train track mold.

The track mold is abstract enough that I don’t mind it. I certainly prefer it to crowns or any other symbol or letter.

The other thing that has been sticking in the back of my mind is that 18xx boardgamers would be very happy to see 20s added to the current lines where possible. Or even an option to buy the labels.

Yes, I know the casino/LV theme turns some people off, but this new line is unfocused. For example, I can think of no boardgames that want quarters.

Maybe a TORCH logo like the old STANDARD OIL CO.
Again, the theme the bank is conveying is general wealth, not any company relation.

+1 for colored inlays
I’ll focus on 1, 5, 20, 100, 500 and 2000 as I most likely have no need for the others.
1: It looks fine as is.
5: I’m not a fan of the edge spots, but they do work very well on this chip.
20: White on gray is too bland for my tastes. I’d l.o.v.e. pink instead (like on the 25).
100: Fine as is.
500: Seems ok, depends on colors in real life.
2000: Nice one :)

Even without changes I’d more than likely order 500.

The .25 denomination (the number itself, not the chip as a whole) looks too similar to 25–the decimal point is easy to miss. Either 0.25 or 1/4 would be a better idea.
