Big10 CPC Design (1 Viewer)

I don't know if this is a fun mental exercise or an actual set to build, but I would be in for a sample set at least, and if you allow piggy-back orders to a fellow alum I would be interested depending on where the CPC pricing end up.
This is an actual set I want to order, not sure when that will happen though. I have my Paulson Classics (first set back in 2005). I got a Rounders set this year (favorite movie) and just picked up a Black Friday HSI cash set (wanted real casino chips). So a custom set would be the final piece for me as a Michigan Alumni/Football fan. Part depends on the total cost, part depends on when the CPC molds run. I would definitely consider adding a barrel of each chip and selling 20 sample sets at cost. :)

My previous price estimate came out to about $2.15/chip. But I know CPC is updating their prices in 2021 so I don't know how much it will change.

Not sure why but one possible reason could be if they have a 614 punch but only have a 318 so has to be punched twice?

I thought that the 1/8” spots are much smaller so they are harder to work with so more labor cost in general.

I'm new on the path and will follow a similar journey as many on this site. From dice chips, to my first ceramic set, and so far a few clay sample sets. I like Rounders and have considered it since besides the movie, it is a good looking set. I will eventually get a CPC custom I think but I have learned to control impulse a bit and know that my first few months on the forum will be learning a lot about chips and probably changing my mind a few times about what I like most. Right now, what I like the most so far is TRKs so from a finding and budget standpoint I am screwed, but I like a challenge.

Here we go. Thanks for that suggestion. Interesting that its the same pattern, just thicker spots. Strange the the thinner edge spots are that much more expensive.

Per conversations with David, pricing comes down to labor, errors, and waste.

Yes, a 618 has to be punched twice, so extra labor. Also rolling the clay is tougher for x18 spots, as there is less leeway for mistakes. x18 also has more error chips as the base clay can envelop the thin x18 spot, so those chips get tossed in quality control.

Don't even get me started if the spots are different colors. Some guy will stack chips 60 high just to find an error chip! :whistling:

When Penn State joined they had a big meeting and decided to keep the name of the conference as Big 10. This was so the guys in Columbus wouldn’t get confused by having to start to count on their toes.

Alright.... back for another round. Changed some colors based on the color sample I have from CPC. The standard Blue on the chip designer looks lighter on the computer, but is a few shades darker in person so I switched up the $1. Same with the $5, changed from Mandarin Red to regular Red. Removed the $5,000 chip and converted it to an Illinois $20. So cash game on the top row, tourney on the bottom row.

$0.25 - Minnesota
$1 - Michigan
$5 - Wisconsin/Nebraska/Rutgers/Indiana
$20 - Illinois
$25 - Michigan State
$100 - Penn State
$500 - Northwestern
$1,000 - Michigan

11 of the 14 Big Ten teams represented. No gold in the CPC palate so Purdue misses out, couldn't mix in Maryland, and easy answer on leaving Ohio out. :)

Still trying to balance out quantities, but for a 2,500 chip order I'm looking the following:
A Mold - $5,480
CSQ or B Mold - $5,955
DSQ Mold - $6,849

Leaning towards B-Mold for Big Ten.

Yikes.... :)

Alright........ back with another flavor. Overall I'm staying with a "Big10" theme, but have made a few tweaks and updates, partially due to feedback from my wife. Need her to be happy with the design so she doesn't bust my ass on the cost of the set.

As always, happy to receive feedback. Cash on top row, Tourney on bottom row.

The 1000 need to be yellow maize.

Also, I would work more maize into the edge spots, especially after doing a blue T5000 chip.

Also if this is a tourney set I would drop the currency symbol.
I moved away from the Big10 theme and this is now a “Miller’s Bar and Poker Room” set. I made another post about the design behind the new set.

Not worried about the dollar signs as there isn’t a cash set.

If you are from SE Michigan and referring to Miller's Bar, you better be bringing me a cheeseburger!

If you don't get the reverence, you are missing out on my #1 burger of all time, and just minutes away.

After multiple iterations and feedback from the forum, I've updated my Michigan themed CPC set. Originally I had all edge spots maize and blue, someone suggested a Big10 theme but keep the M logo in the middle to tie the Michigan theme across the set. And I also have players in my group that represent multiple schools, so here is my update:

$0.25 and $1 - Michigan Maize and Blue Theme
$5 - Indiana/Wisconsin/Nebraska/Rutgers
$25 - Michigan State
$100 - Iowa
$500 - Northwestern
$1,000 - Ohio State (as painful as it is to do)
$5,000 - Illinois

Other option would be to boot out Ohio State and replace with a Maryland $1,000.

Thoughts? Further feedback?
This looks good. *uch better on this new design. Love it.

Go BUCKEYES!

I know this has no place here on a poker chip site, but check out my OSU Buckeyes skis. A buckeye sticker for everyday on the mtn.
