Been looking at several ceramics to buy for my home game. Typical 9/10 handed every week on rollout poker mat.

been looking at tiki, Nevada jacks etc.

Broken record time: samples! Get samples!

I've got NJs, DDLMs, Chipcos, Sunflys, etc ... and they all feel different. However, if you're in love with certain artwork (like the DDLMs) then that helps steer you.

Tikis are fun, I also thought the king of the river ones are cool, lets you feel like you’re in WSOP

Broken record here :D

Samples have saved me so much money, it is unreal, please get them before you make big purchases. I have skipped on 7 total sets because I got samples of them. Be vigilant, be patient!

+1 on the BRPro reccomendation, they are fantastic.

Specifically to answer your question as well, I'd get a sample of each set that you are interested in.

BRPro uses the same chips for all of the ones they sell, and they put the images on the chips themselves I was told in an email, so most of their chips are going to be the same quality. The only set that I didnt like were the Black Betty's, the images on those looked washed out when I got my samples in the mail. The Dia De Los Muertos set is probably my favorite.

Also remember, BRPro allows you to put custom denoms on some of their chip sets, it's pretty sweet.

I am concerned with the image quality. I have sample Archetype Chips from SidePot. They look and feel great. But, I am concerned that the image will fade over time. Also, I bought a set of Protege from Side Pot. It is now discontinued and I need to start from scratch to expand.

Images on ceramic chips do fade over time due to wear and tear, but they are nevertheless remarkably durable. You can find faded Chipco ceramics, but understand that those were used non-stop in casinos for years. If you get new ceramics for your home game they'll probably still be in beautiful condition when your kids are playing with them after you've died.

If you can find em, B&G ceramics knocks everything else out of the park (including chipcos). Heavy with just the perfect amount of texture. And they shuffle very very smoothly.

I like Old Havana Poker Club. Nice graphics if you skip 50s. They do not have currency sign...

I don't know who is the people behind Sidepot but I do know Gene and Kristil from brpropoker are great.

Go to www.brpropoker.com and see if they have anything you like.

Thanks for the suggestions. I checked out BR Poker, they have great selection. I am opting for standard chips and avoiding custom. I feel I will have more options in the future to add to my collection as needed.

One thing to keep in mind is that adding on to an existing denomination years later is usually not a good idea. There are inconsistencies in the dye which could lead to the same chip looking different when purchasing two different batches (lighter, darker, contrast, etc).

If you're talking about adding on to your set by picking a completely different denomination, then that's fine.

That's what I'm thinking. My problem now is that I have a great set for 0.25/0.50 (even 1/2) cash game. But, I want to start doing tournaments and I really need chips of $1,000 and higher.

I have been scouting the BRPro site for a few days. Really like the DDLM, but the Poker Room customization presents some really nice options. I ordered some samples to get the difference between the two, but I am guessing as far as feel and play the will be the same….the real different will be the artwork. Interested to hear what you all think about the consistency of custom artwork and the overall play of the chips. Currently playing with some pretty weak Ace King suited chips and wanting to step up the game a bit.

Sunflys vs BRPro would be a pretty interesting thread to start on here. Just looking at the pics it appears there is a significantly different texture to the chips. I like the artwork on the BRPros, but I think I may have a little bit of confirmation bias going on, simply because I‘m leaning heavily towards the DDLMs for a tourney set.

I could be mistaken, but I think "Nevada Jacks" get a different blank than the others. Order a sample set of those from brpropoker while you are at it. Other than that the feel and play will be the same, just an artwork change.

People like Sun-Fly here for their ceramic hybrids. They have a recessed center with a label (like traditional chips) but they are ceramics which can give you options for the rest of the chip. If you like the hybrids then by all means buy from Sun-Fly. If you like normal ceramics then brpropoker is the way to go.

They are completely different and I wouldn't want to start a flame war with that thread  :ROFLMAO:

As tabletalker7 points out, the SunFlys most people talk about here are the hybrid with the label. There are advantages and disadvantages to the hybrid chip, but it really comes down to the artwork. You simply cannot beat full face beautiful art that goes edge to edge. So if the artwork for the DDLM is your favorite, then you go with that. Unless you just don't like the feel, then you go with a more casino-like hybrid.

I have a good amount of samples and after a long time of researching and reading though different forums on here, I ordered a set of Lucky Dragons from BRPoker. I actually ordered a 600 peice set of the Nile chips but sent them back. The sample set I ordered of the luck dragons came in at the same time and once I felt both next to each other the quality was much better in the Lucky Dragons.
My set should be in sometime next week I am hoping and I am very excited.

I have Lucky Dragons, Black Betty's and custom Dogecoin ceramics from BR Pro Poker, all look fantastic. Customer service is also great. I think you'll be very happy with the Dragons, the only reason I retired them was because I wanted pink fracs. Great chips imo

I used my custom chipco chips for over 15 years. They saw a tremendous amount of action during That time (sometimes 4 nights a week). I think they held up really well all things considered…..
