How budget you talkin? Lots of hate here for ABS sluggos but the Outlaws are solid chips at a super cheap price.

Cash game or tournament? Budget for your chip set?
+1 for this. You’ll get some better guidance if you can share your rough budget. Is it a cash game setup and you’re looking to spend $200/$500 etc? Big range of “budget” here.

Another way of looking at it is how much per chip are you comfortable spending? <$0.1 (dice) $0.5 (tina) and up up up

I was thinking about $150 to spend. I want to have both options tournament / cash game. What would you recommend in terms of number of chips, denominations, and brand?

500 Outlaws or Monacos would be about that price. Even a little less. Denoms would depend on what your stakes are. Typically its recommended to have 2 different sets. One for cash and one for tourney.

For how many you need, I recommend videos by @Chris Manzoni. Too bad he stopped making videos. Would love to see more.

Is it still possible to get a set for tournament nd a set for cash game like in his videos from Tina,

About 150-$175

1000 solid super diamonds in whatever color breakdown you want. That's one order.

The next order is a 1000 chip acrylic poker birdcage with 10 plastic racks inside.

No denoms on the chips, but there are a lot of colors to choose from, they have about the right weight, and decent stacking and grab for such a cheap chip.

Shipped right to your door from Amazon.

Save yourself $100 and get dice chips. You can run cash games and tournaments with them and then upgrade to something that holds their value better in the future.

If you spend $150 on some cheap chips now, you’ll want to upgrade from that eventually and you’ll probably be able to get $50-$75 for whatever you buy

Another good question: what stakes will you play for cash games? Some sets don't have nickels, and a few don't even have quarters.

But for $150, you could get 600 of these (we can give you advice for a good breakdown, BTW). I had a tourney set, and I thought they were fine.

If you need nickels for micro stakes, these are decent too, and in your price range. h

If you want to play tourneys, just get some dice chips for cheap/free off FB marketplace. But I wouldn't mix usage.

This is also a good point,

I know it's more than your posted budget of "$150" but a 600 chip set of cash chips (supporting one table) from @justincarothers hybrid chips will run you about $282 (plus shipping?). These are very cool, and very economical chips compared to many others here on the site.

--EDIT-- fixed link to take you to the top of page 1 of the post.

In addition, you can watch the classifieds here for a wide variety of chip sets at varying price points.
