Bally's to be rebranded as Horseshoe in Las Vegas (1 Viewer)

Those must be one of the last live shaped inlay chips out there, right?
Have they been surviving for the past decade or two with a bunch of old chips, or is this the “grandfathered shaped inlay” theory that people have floated?
And further, are those inlays textured?
Jesus, I’ve never had much of an interest in house molds before, and suddenly I feel like jumping on a plane with an empty backpack.
Not sue if they are the last, but one of the few remaining shaped and textured inlays.
the answer maybe both..
nerd alert..
There are two versions I know of for this chip, both shaped and textured.. the older has a larger text font, slightly smaller denom font and the "original" radiant red base formulation color.
The newer version has a smaller text font and slightly larger denom font and the newer radiant red color.
The newer color is a bit lighter, more towards pinkish while the older color is deeper, slightly more toward the reddish spectrum.
My preference is the older version, but tough to find those in the condition I'm looking for.

Newer one (left) vs older (right)

so, there were two versions or two batches produced ?
There are two versions at least, and likely multiple batches (reorders).
My best guess due to base color differences is the the original version (1999) is the darker "original" radiant red that are still in circulation.
At some point when reordering more, the newer version (as described above) has the newer formulation of radiant red (same color seen on more recent chips like the RPC primary $.25 and secondary $5)

Quite accurate and interesting answer thank you very much.

I have a few $5 (almost 4 barrels) as well and had noticed the different shades.

Like a noob, lol, I thought that differences of shades were due to the cleaning, just because I have some that didn't need to be cleaned.

Now, I got the explanation.

Don't need any $1s... unless you see some 1986ers lying around in the back of the cage  :ROFLMAO: (the ones seen in my pic above)
I'd be interested in excellent condition (sharpish edges to near mint) $5s...

What a score. Those look amazing. Far from the junk on the poker tables now. This is what you can expect now. And these chips were sorted. The other 90% are beat to shit

yeah, there actually may be a "3rd" one (more accurately a different reorder of the 2nd version), that is even more towards the pink spectrum but with the same fonts as the 2nd version. I have some of those as well.

I had like two barrels of these, really nice and sharp and they glowed. Didn't have a use for them and sent them off to a new home but still miss them.

Do you think they always used the same manufacturer for the different orders?

Being new to the world of chips, I'm also surprised that they wouldn't want to sell off their old chips to collectors.

yeah, main reason I haven't put together another rack.. @moose was a godsend for one of the racks in excellent + condition a while back.
I also had a waitress out there sorting and shipping me handfuls at a time, but it was an expensive hassle (some in not so good condition).
I have two full racks of excellent condition and almost another rack that are mostly around the condition of the 2nd in from the left and 2nd in from the right of your picture

I missed the sale of 36 of them last week that were in VG condition.. :(

How did you get so many $1s? Most sessions, they wouldn't sell me more than a barrel when I sat at $1-3 so it took me a week to accumulate 2 racks.
I'm a hardcore harvester! thats what I do! haha. Since flamingo poker room closed down they have been spreading more 3/6 games at Bally's. If you don't mind sitting down at a 3/6 game for a while, you can get a lot of dollars.

Golden Nugget still has shaped inlays but I’m pretty sure that’s it for Vegas.

They are always the same manufacturer (GPI/Paulson). They could get different chips made, but no one else besides Paulson could make these chips (custom "house" molds).

I believe Nevada gaming regulation usually want chips destroyed if removing them from circulation, but there may be leeway, though I don't know the criteria.

From the Regulations of the Nevada Gaming Commission and Nevada Gaming Control Board
REGULATION 12 - regarding disposal of discontinued chips and tokens.

"(e) Destruction or such other disposition of the discontinued chips and tokens as the Chair may approve or require."

The only way around this that I know of is in the case of bankruptcy, the chips may be sold as assets.

great plan!
... @casinochipper22 hurry before the casino is rebranded... harvest ALL chips from the casino until the patrons all disappear and they are on the verge of bankruptcy.. you can then return all the chips right before they declare bankruptcy and we'll get them for cents on the dollar.

I wish I had contacts at Ballys. I'd float the idea of us doing a group buy to purchase a lot of their chips when they're ready to quit using them. Maybe they can get permission from the aforementioned 'Chair' to move a bunch of chips to collectors then destroy all the others that were not purchased in our GB. That'd be cool :)
