ATTENTION, Jeep-freaks! (5 Viewers)

Here were our bad-ass rides today.
I don’t think my butt-pucker has relaxed yet. Jeeping is NOT for the faint of heart.

And they called the trail, “moderate”.
Moderate, my ass!! I call it “insanity”.

And yes, they did call it “wheeling” sometimes too.

I learned a lot about what kind of Jeep I want though. NOT a new one!! And 2-door. That’s my progress for today.
Congratulations on the “butt-pucker” Mel. It’s good for the soul to get a little of that in our lives from time to time. :ROFLMAO:
The jeeps look awesome, I’m a huge fan of the red 2 door unlimited, you don’t see those around that much.
First “butt-pucker” I ever got Jeeping was in an old unlimited just like that one. I will have to dig up some old pictures of it to post here.
Looks like a fun day. You should really consider meeting me in Denver August 4th and heading out to Moab for a couple awesome days of “butt-pucker” :ROFLMAO:.

Good choices so far. I'd definitely take the red one.

You'll get the most for your money with a used Jeep. You can buy one outright that's ready to wheel.

Miles might be a bit high too, but the price is pretty good for an LJ.

I've talked to people in CA that flew to NY to drive an LJ home. I went to New Mexico to pick up mine.

Very nice Mel. Love the green and with that roll cage, you could get as crazy as you wanted out on the trail. :ROFLMAO:

I like that green too, don't see it often. I think the price seems high for something fairly stock though. Many prefer close to stock because it's a clean slate and hasn't been bashed on the rocks.

Strangely, TJ's have fluctuations in price depending on location.

I've always liked the old 90's/OJ Bronco's. I read that the 2 door has a 100.4" wheel base which is close to the LJ. Just like any new truck, They do seem like Ford is going straight for the Jeep market. Removable doors and tops. They even look like Jeep rip offs. I won't be impressed until I see one on a difficult trail.

I love my Jeep, but I am fascinated when I see other trucks out there.

Man, there's a thread on PCF for basically everything! Just found this one while drinking my morning coffee. I'm currently on my fifth Jeep in a row, second Cherokee. Yes, I get the playful jabs from the younger generation of Jeep owners, the segment that calls me an old man now. I call it a natural progression! But my first two Jeeps were Wranglers and I admit the third version was an all-black Liberty Renegade, which I ditched after less than a year because my then-girlfriend called me a wuss for buying it (I fell for the foglights across the roof).

That said, agreed emphatically with @JeepologyOffroad's point on bang for the buck:

If you are one to dig the old school look I am a HUGE fan of the Cherokee. Bang for your buck is off the charts and these things will literally run til the end of time. Might leak a little oil on the way there, but they just don't ever die.

I had a third generation Grand Cherokee, which I purchased in 2005, and she lasted all the way up to 283,000-plus miles before finally becoming a money pit and I had to let her go. Didn't do anything special with her (that age thing caught up with me), but loved that it lasted for a decade-plus. Here she is getting towed away in early 2018 after konking out on me when I lived in New Orleans. It was going to cost me $4K-plus to address the engine issues, so I decided to part with it. Was a sad day. A buddy of mine, who also owned a 2005 Cherokee, and I were in a race to see who could get to 300,000 first.

When it came time to get a new vehicle, I stuck with the brand, albeit the old man version since my off-roading days are over.

I want a Jeep that is going to get dirty!

You're in a fun time. When I owned my first two Wranglers, they would enthusiastically wag their tails whenever I opened the garage on snowy days.

I was just on the jeepforum and had opened up a bunch of tabs including this one. I'm starting to confuse myself what forum I'm on, but that's ok. I'll lqqk at Jeeps all day long.

Nice pics. I would never attempt that pucker attraction above.

attempting that would be like going all-in pre w/ 92 unsuited

Luckily there are two bypasses for that obstacle. Otherwise most would have to turn around and go home. :D

If I'm thinking of doing it, I'll let two Jeeps go ahead of me and see if they make it with little work. If either one struggles, I'm likely to pass.

That section varies from year to year. There's a local club that sponsors that trail. A few years ago (after a few people totaled their rigs) they came in and put concrete over that section. After that, when it was fresh, you could cruise over it in a stock Jeep. I don't know if it eroded, or if someone removed the concrete, but it's back to 'danger' state.

I usually have at least one kid with me. So I use the excuse: 'I'd try it if I didn't have my kid with me.'

Or the ever popular: Fuck that shit! :D

That's pretty gnarly. I've only been in one rutted section kind of like that where I was leaned over pretty good to one side, but it wasn't on a steep hill like that. My wife was in the passenger (downhill) side as we leaned towards a big boulder, and she was freaking out like the lady in the Black Bear Pass video. It didn't help that our kids were in the back seat too. We made it through though. That was on the Bill Moore Lake trail where there's a web of easy and harder routes and I accidentally went down one of the hard ways instead of the way we came up.

It's definitely sketchy when you feel that weightless teetering. I've come really close, but luckily haven't flopped. Knock on wood.

This is one of the 2 times I've come REALLY close. Here I was teetering on 2 wheels. I was backing up to go around someone that broke when this happened. Had to have someone jump on the side while I rolled a couple feet.
