Is there any difference between the original ASM chips, and the rebooted CPC?

Said another way - If I order a few racks of CPC HHR or A-mold chips, to augment my current set (which in this color is a mix of the two) - will people be able to tell which is which?
Note: my ASM set is nearly mint (yes, that is sad I don't use them more), is lime green with no stamps or inlays.

Follow up newbie question - is there a term for unstamped, no inlay. (may be splitting hairs, here, but "plain" is a mold, n'est ce pas?)

The colors will vary, some are more variable than others.

what about weighting (mine appear to have brass flakes sprinkled in.)

You’ll find brass flakes on all of their weighted colors (not the dayglos). It serves to bring them closer to casino weight.

I think on some colors like the reds, blues, and browns the flakes augment their appearance. Whereas on lighter colors like canary and white it makes the rolling edge look dingy.

I suggest getting a new color sample from CPC before you venture into getting an add-on to your set. This will allow you to compare your original ASM colors with the current CPC colors. You may be able to get a color sample of just the colors you care about.

If the originals are non-weighted (ie no brass flakes), dayglo green, the new CPC dayglo green will be much brighter. If it's the weighted light green, they'll probably be closer in color, but as noted above it would still be a good idea to get a new CPC color sample to compare.

ASMs are much harder then CPC, and the colors can be a hint different.
That's really interesting, I wonder if its just the clay hardening over time.

i have been adding chips to my club cleopatras for years. you should get a sample color chip set. the day glow colors have changed a little they are brighter and more vivid. i know day-glow green is brighter, day glow peach is brighter, white is brighter. if the color being off is a problem don't do it. but nobody has said anything about the chips at my home games. a couple beers and the colors and chips look great

It might be. Milling them, there is a vast different. Older ASMs are one of the most pain in the butt chips to mill.
Good to know, that may affect a future project I have for you lol. Assuming you haven't gotten this far yet in your stamping journey, but any ideas on difficulty hot stamping older ASMs vs newer CPCs?

So new CPCs are soft, and older ASMs are harder. Both stamp, just require different temp and PSI to make it happen.

This aligns with a discussion I had with David - I was going to order custom hot stamps and I asked him to make the chips without the art. He said it wouldn't work as he needs to stamp them immediately after they're made, implying that his machine doesn't have enough pressure to stamp an older harder chip.

Josh says he loves to mill those really old Roman mold ASM's. :vomit:

I think he totally dulled a bit or two on a job for me. I believe they are made out of Roman era volcanic ash.
So I guess another 500 or so wouldn't be looked up kindly. Duly noted

Really? I haven't found much difficulty with the vintage ASMs at all. I used them to calibrate my jig before doing the THCs
Prob because we used different jigs.... But each chip can be a different story.

I recently added to my custom ASM I had originally got in 2006.
Couple of observations:

1. CPCs are slightly smaller.
2. They weigh approximately the same.
3. Of the CPCs I ordered, I only added to two colors—gray and blue. The gray matched pretty close, but the newer blues leaned towards a purple shade.

I have two sets of ASM blanks I got from Michael back on CT and debating on milling or trying to stamp them. I would like to stamp them but I'm afraid to break them. @Josh Kifer what do you recommend for temp and psi? I still need to have some dies made. I'm thinking just old style trk font denominations.
