Background:
There has been a small rise in doing "maker chips" with 3d printers recently, and I originally thought it would be good for offering fun designs for my airbnb guests as free collectables. Then thought I could design something similar for different businesses, qr codes, etc, offering more unique design options. As I was making a bunch of templates and examples, just found inspiration for a more apocalypse chip design. Bit of a fallout vibe, but final designs not using any trademarked sayings, and all being customizable to an extent.

Design Options:
I wanted to do something outside the norm for these. First bit was doing an indented edge, so it's not flush all the way around the chip, giving them texture. I do have flush options for all the edges instead if needed, but once again, going for something different. Every emboss/indent in the chip is unique shaped as well. The Value is also inset a little bit with the numbering embossed up giving it a tactile bump/feel up to the width of the chip so they lay flat. Each value chip being completely unique, seeing as in the apocalypse you might not get a complete matching set.

All chips are 40mm x 3.5mm

Weight is currently around 4oz each.

Hoping once I finish the full set of designs, to do a washer insert with pause commands to bring them up to around 10oz weight.

Like the idea of each chip is it's own complete different design and feel, while I could offer a full set with one design with all the different colors/values.

I am still trying to figure out the design for a 100 chip, using a nuclear blast with black and gold, but still not happy with it yet. Also not sure on a 50 chip either.

I have modeled a 60mm sunset blue star bottle cap dealer button. Not printed yet. For those who know, thought it would be a fun touch.

Also working on a vault themed carousel holder with a bottle cap lifting handle, but that is a ways away from completion. Might do a nuka bottle carousel as well.

Rack stackers with vault theme edges or something is on my radar.

A couple fun trophy designs.

Hoping to get a complete fun novelty set together, unique, fun shapes, but also keeping to colors, weights, sizes, etc for regular poker players. Some serious poker people might not be into it, but maybe so. Everyone might know friends, geeks, dnd players, video game nerds, or similar that this could be a fun gift idea for possibly, plus a way to bridge between hobbies.

Love some feedback/thought/other designs to maybe do?

Grams, not oz. My bad...

Was looking to edit the post, but past the actual time allowed to edit it.

lol, I'm pretty sure it's grams. I think the best 3d printed poker chips I ever found were https://www.instructables.com/Professional-Poker-Chips/ and they're still essentially sluggos, using a washer and printing in snap together parts. One part is essentially the 'inlay' and I suppose could have designs printed into it. Might be easier to adapt to something like that than hollow out space for washers in all the other models and add a pause to drop a washer in. Unless of course they're your models and you already did that work in which case carry on.

I wound up going with a different sort of DIY (mill+relabel) set than chasing the 3d printed option but excited to see what you come up with.

Yeah,, it's grams. couldn't edit it anymore to fix the mistake.

Making a hollow bit is pretty simple, and I can print 25 chips on a plate, so adding a pause and getting it to proper weight would be easier when printing 25 at a time. Snapping or gluing together is more labor and time vs print all at once.

I did post some pictures of the designs I've got so far in the imgur link.

Cool designs! Are you making them specifically for poker or for board games as well? If the former, you can get rid of the 10 and 20 denomination.

Would like to see a rack of them stacked up on the table when you can

They can be whatever denominations, but from what I understand, blue is more for 10, and yellow for 20s (if used at all, i didn't have a darker yellow available at the moment so the yellow is glow in the dark I have in my stock, which is a nice theme for the design, otherwise i'd use a better yellow or gold). Blue works well with the vault tec design, thus I made it 10 by default. These can be used for whatever, but goal is more poker. Great thing is customization of the text or design on the one side, the font, and the color combos.

I don't have a full set fully printed yet. I do have 75 grey one chips. Only 20 good red fives, that's on my list to print more of. 25 of the blue tens (with more printing at this moment). 50 of the yellow twenties. A bunch of different green 25s, had some design issues with overhangs, so a lot of them needed re-printing so many to spare with slight imperfections.

I've added a photo of some of what I got currently stacked up in the gallery posted previously now. Still not done with a 100 chip design yet though.

It's about 6-9 hours to print a plate of 25 chips, so 50 chips is about a day worth of printing for one machine. I have multiple, but only using 1 machine for this project currently.

How is that cost effective vs just buying custom Tina chips etc?
I've been printing around 6 months now. Many projects similar to this one I'd be lucky to make $2hr for the design time and labor involved in the rest of the processing, packaging, shipping.
Atleast most of the stuff I've poured lots of time into I wanted myself to make it more worthwhile doing.

I wish you luck!

The 10 and 20 are redundant because they are in proximity to the 5 and 25, which can do the same job.

Cost effective is a matter on unique proposition that you can't get with the tina chips.

The bottle cap chip, not possible for tina chips at all.

The numbers are raised, heck, I can make the chips with braille for those who are blind. I can do full see through center chips if desired.

Unique design you can't get anywhere, for a collector or fan of the game/franchise, can be an additional premium.

I was just making a bunch of unique designs for myself and for examples, plus, getting better each time in fusion for learning right now, that's worth my time for improve my skill in it. Realistically, doing a custom set for a business for promotional material, I can make more money than a full poker set, heck I'd be happy with this as gifts for some of my geeky friends. Then again, if I have a set designed and just ready to print, it'll be easier, if I have to do the washer insert, it'll be more difficult/costly.

I don't quite like the whole printed sticker on generic chips, or being limited to a specific pattern only. Doing a vault/cogwheel chip with none of the white around the edge for a complete different shape can be fun, but maybe not for those who are big into poker or the chips being too specific. If you have a bunch of video game or board game geeky friends who may not be into poker, say you have a fun fallout poker chip set you'd like to use to play, can easily get that group of friends into the game with you. Then again maybe not. Thus is why I'm giving this a shot for something different. Plus full themed accessories to go with it, some people go crazy for, so who knows. But wanted to do my own things, and created this for fun to start.

The 10 and 20 are redundant because they are in proximity to the 5 and 25, which can do the same job.

Great thing, is, can be completely changed in value and color if needed, but figured I'd have it presented.
