Interesting find, Señor Cricket. Thanks for sharing.
The name I see associated with most (all?) the images is AJ Giametta. I haven’t seen another name yet, so I’m unclear if nobody else has submitted chips or if it’s just a database error and the first name in the list is being attributed to every chip. Regardless, Mr. Giametta is a long time collector and his inventory is substantial. If his inventory has been uploaded to the site that means either he is behind the site, or someone is trying to build a competitor/alternate option to Chipguide and convinced AJ to have his inventory uploaded.
Besides just the quantity of chips present, what I find interesting is the amount of related data - issue/series, type of casino, TCR number (if applicable), etc. Part of me wonders if someone might have obtained an XML or other formatted dump of data from Chipguide and uploaded it here. Otherwise that’s a lot of work on top of just uploading the images. Some of these long time collectors are retired and chipping is their full time hobby so I wouldn’t completely ignore the possibility of them just doing data entry all day long. Who knows.
I’ll see AJ at the convention (assuming he doesn’t miss this one) and will be sure to ask him about the site. I suspect either we’re going to know a lot more about the site and the founder real soon, or it’s going to evaporate fairly soon.
