Anyone move back to an iPhone 5s (or SE) after using a 6 or 6+? (4 Viewers)

Lots of paid Apple shills writing articles to tell us how bone headed we are for not embracing this move.

No surprise. Remember a few models ago when people were reporting horrible cellular reception the CEO took to the media to excoriate all the idiots that were holding the phone wrong thus interfering with the antenna? Then in later models they silently acknowledged the design flaw and fixed it.

I'm not a fanboi but I happen to like my iPhone SE. It does everything I need and it does it reasonably well in a size I can manage easily and it was priced within my reach. In a few years when it dies I will once again scour the market to see what's out there and buy according to my needs, tastes and budget. Maybe it will be an Apple product, maybe it won't. The more I spend on a phone, the less I can spend on chips.

Got my 7 today. So far so good. It feels like a nice upgrade from my 5. Didn't take too long to get used to the new home button, and I certainly appreciate the larger screen (though I didn't get the plus).

I ordered the 7 today, expecting it to be shipped next Monday. I'm a little worried about the headphone/charger deal, hopefully it won't be too much of an issue.

And, FWIW, the dongle isn't nearly that large. Here's a picture for scale. To me it's a non-issue. Stick the dongle on your headphones and leave them there. Have more than one set of headphones, buy another dongle for $9. I get that it's still less convenient than having a headphone jack, but it's hardly a show stopper (IMO anyway).

The dongle has a lighting connector at one end (that goes into the iPhone) and a female 3.5mm headphone jack on the other end (that regular headphones with a 3.5mm male jacks plug into).

Unless I misunderstood your question, you don't need anything else.

So the old iPhones have a 3 channel 3.5 mm jack. Stereo headphones plus a microphone. To use regular headphones in my iPhone 5, I needed an adapter ro go between the 3 channel and the 2 channel.

Mine didn't work on my iPhone 4s, and I had to get an adapter. They are standard stereo 3.5mm jack. I'm using the same adapter on my 5s because I have it and have never tried them without it. Hopefully this is a non-issue moving forward.

So the long awaited MacBook Pro finally showed up with Dunh, Dunh, Dunh... more DONGLES! 2016 has got to be known as Year of the Dongle for Apple. I love my old MBP, but I honestly can't get on board with a new model that:

1. Removes Magsafe connector (What!?)
2. Maximum of 16 GB RAM (Pretty week in the era of OS Virtualization)
3. Only has lightning ports for external interfaces

I'm sure the new function row display will be fine, although a bit hampered by the lack of haptic feedback. I'm not really upset with removing the SD slot, although I have some creative friends that are going to be peeved.

The bit I thought of immediately when I saw that it only had USB ports was that you will need a dongle to connect the new MBP to an iPhone 7. At least the MBP keep the headphone jack. I'm surprised they didn't have the "Courage" to remove it there as well.

Well, looks like the future is all USB in apples mind. Ironic since they were the last major computer manufacturer to get on board the USB as the standard keyboard port.

I think usb-c looks like a nice new standard. I guess we have to go through the growing pains as the rest of the industry catches up and starts making it the standard interface for all the devices.

Not OEM, but I'd still add it to the list - this "BreakSafe" magnetic usb adapter is $40.

I know. How many times have you ever been like "Well, shit... I wish I could plug my power cable into one of these other three ports..." versus getting tangled in the power cord.

I don't care about the whole "Steve Jobs would never have done this" bullshit argument, but honestly that's the first thing I thought with regard to the MagSafe. No chance that happens if Jobs is around.

Maybe you guys don't remember this, but it was the same thing when apple moved away from ADB and SCSI to USB and FireWire. There is a brief period during the changeover where dongles are required to use the new computers and legacy accessories. Price of progress.

Just hold off on buying a new laptop until all the accessories you want to use are all USB-C, and buy all new accessories, or suck it up and get the needed dongles. I think in the end USB-C is going to serve us well for about 5 years or more.

Yeah, I'm with you on all the Jobs second guessing. They just need to move on, find a direction, and go with it.

If that direction is USB-C at all costs, then customers will decide they are OK with carrying around dongles, or they will move on until USB-C catches up.
