I am curious, has anyone here ever gotten ripped off by accepting G&S payment, sending the chips, and then getting the funds yanked via chargeback etc?

That is a problem in my personal business/industry. In general I am happy to accept G&S but I am about to list a larger (for me) auction where I would not have control over who I am selling to and am curious if that is potentially an issue with G&S as a seller.

I was thinking about this too. In my experience, Paypal pretty much always rules in favor of the buyer.

I am a photographer and I haven’t been ripped off that way via eBay but people have definitely bought expensive cameras and lenses from me, used them on a shoot, and then returned them (at my expense). Which is a massive pain in the ass.

I don’t accept credit card, or PayPal or Venmo payments for my business but others will receive payment that way and then the client reversed payment after the photos are delivered. Usually they are able to get the money back but it’s a lengthy process.

How about a feature where a third party can confirm that a seller is legit? In this case if someone had a way to get in contact with RR outside of pcf he could have checked?
Maybe for larger transactions?

Obviously, one person getting scammed is too many. Without minimizing what just happened, I’m curious how big of an issue this really is. The few times it’s been attempted there have been major red flags, both in the listings and the PMs that follow. Quickly caught and brought to the attention of the community. I’m all for measures to stop it but I’d hate to see onerous requirements that make it feel like these a-holes won. Perhaps I’m naïve but I still think this is one of the safest places to conduct business around. Stay diligent, friends.

I think there’s something to the buddy-system you mention. While a bit of a pain, checking large sales with another member could be really effective, especially if the deal seems too good to be true.

I assume everything uploaded to the cloud can and will be compromised by someone who wants your stuff. Saving your keys to the cloud is like leaving your car keys in the ignition.

It depends on what encryption you're using. If you use a quality algorithm with a sufficiently complex password, even if they hack your cloud account the files should be safe.

For 2FA, your best bet is to print the QR codes and lock them up someplace in your home.

I have yet to have someone try to screw me in this way but what I’ve done for high value sales is take a video of me boxing the product, with a time stamp, signing the cardboard at both folds before putting the tape over it. I then videotape the product being dropped off at the post office zooming into the signature under the tape to show that it has not been removed from packaging.

Not sure if this will carry any weight with pp but it takes only a few extra seconds.

Shocked to read all this.
I 'm a luddite; I never log in the forum through my phone and I make sure to create complex passwords only I can remember, when I log in from desktops and laptops.
I think the most important thing is to have a different password for this forum from the ones for your email etc, and above all, from the CPC Chip Design Tool.
