Since joining this forum I have substantially altered the way I will be running my tournaments. Now I am trying to settle on some blinds.. I've gone over tons of material, lots of threads, lots of different blinds schedules. I have done a T5 base, and T1500 chip count for the past 20 years so this is an extremely different setup than I am used to. But I am excited about giving out large stacks to my players.

Here's what I am wanting to achieve:
1. T20K starting stack for 10 players (400BB)
2. Max 1 re-buy
3. Easy going first half (2 hours) due to some new players usually
4. End within 4-5 hours.

I came up with the following blinds on a 20 min intervals, with the 20xBB on the "anticipated' total chips on the table to end around 4.5hr.

are my goals feasible or do I need to reduce the stack size? I would almost prefer the 20xBB to be at stage 13, any ideas?

I'm planning on doing a 16/16/8/4/2 starting stack (T20K), all colour ups will be 1K chips. Anticipating 50% rebuy for a total anticipated chip amount of T300000, and 20xBB would be 15K (level 14 currently which I am trying to get to level 13)

Your jumps are way to high near the end. I'd drop the first level completely and move to a 200bb game. Add a 1500/3000, 3000/6000 and 6000/12000. This should only add about 40 minutes to your estimate.

What about switching to 15 minute blinds at lvl 11, 1K SB, this would allow the veteran players who are remaining to play quicker and I gave plenty of time for newbies to make their moves. Then I can add an extra blind or two in there.

My crew is very laid back, I think they will appreciate the first 20 minutes of 25-50 blinds as a warmup chat it up round.

ok, I appreciate the inputs, I've added those blinds mentioned, while shortening the duration to 15 min as by level 10, there should only be 4-5 players remaining and orbits will go much faster. I also have a small cash game starting after players bust out ($0.05/$0.10 blinds), to keep knockouts occupied.

I've adjusted the schedule a bit, running at 4h45min-5:00 to get to 20xBB (depending on rebuys) not including time to colour up and break... so probably around 5H.

I think this flows pretty good and I have achieved most of my goals.

I am curious about chips on the table though, I have enough for a 16/16/10/8/1 for 10 players, is this too much? I think players love the stacks in front of them (myself included), just might be more work to colour up but I'm okay with that. Other option would be a 16/16/5/6/2 which I think is more standard for a higher chip stack.

Regarding structure:
For a 20k starting stack, the first 20 minutes are a waste at 25/50 since you are cutting the effective stack size in half at L2. Much better game play results if you either a) go with 40k stacks and start blinds at 50/100, or b) add a 25/75 level between 25/50 and 50/100 levels while keeping the 20k stacks.

Same logic about slashing stack sizes applies to the later levels -- adding 1500/3000, 3000/6000, and 6000/12000 levels are highly recommended to improve game play. (Using shorter levels in the later stages is fine, as fewer players remaining will result in roughly the same number of hands played per level as in the earlier rounds.)

I would color up both T100s and T500s after L12. Having large numbers of T500s in play will slow down action considerably. You can also optionally change L11 to 1100/2200 to smooth out the blind increase percentages.

Regarding chips:
Nothing inherently wrong with either 12/12/xxx or 16/16/xx starting stacks; either choice is fine. But the number of T500 chips should be limited (only 4-5 are needed) and the number of T1000 chips increased. Very few T500s are needed to construct bets (never more than 1 per bet), but T1000s become the workhorse chip and sufficient quantities to needed to accommodate that.

16/16/6/10/5 = 40k or 16/16/6/10/1 = 20k both work very well, creating largish-stacks while increasing the number of T1000s in play and allowing T5000 chips to be used for all color-ups and re-buys.

The more traditional 12/12/5/6/x stack (or 16/16/4/6/x) approach requires that T1000s be used for T25/T100 color-ups to ensure enough T1000s are in play when they are needed.

Ok thank you for the ideas, I might bite the bullet and do a 25/75, I had it on there earlier but erased it due to keeping the time down on the tourney.

Okay, I think this is the final version, with breaks will likely be around 5 hours, which I am okay with, I like to have a good time. We start at 7PM and aiming to end at midnight. this is for 10 players, T20000 starting stack and estimating 3-5 rebuys, 20xBB is estimated 15K with 5 rebuy.
