I'm having trouble deciding between two different spot patterns for one of the denoms in a set of custom ceramic chips, and then it dawned on me, why not both? Is this brilliant? or a terrible idea? Both chips will have the same base color and a similar palette.

I was thinking I would choose one as the "main" pattern and just sprinkle in 25 or 50 of the alternate one as a little easter egg. But maybe it will end up driving me crazy to have mismatched chips.

What do you all think? Has anyone done this? how did it work out for you?

Here are the two designs I can't decide between (made with chipmaticstudio.com):

Get them both.
Sprinkle one in and see if you like it.
Alternate use between games for security.

Mixed edgespots would bug me, but it’s your set.

I think a better idea would be to get 25-50 Grand Opening or other commemorative labels and mix those in.

I think consistency is a fairly high priority with chip stacks, so anything that may mess with that is an issue. At least to my eyes.
Agreed. I'm not a fan of a lot of casino alternates I've seen. Honestly I can't think of any that I like/stand out off the top of my head.

But I do like the idea, and I did different inlays only for my Casino Nacional set.

I think the only Easter egg I’d like would be a slightly different label. In your case I’d have the planets colours swapped or something very discrete. And I’d only have like 1 chip out of 100 be different lol

I have seen several members add-on to their existing sets with chips that had different edge spots. They did it quite successfully imo but the edge spots were the EXACT same colors as the originals. I think adding different colors to the same denom would be asking for trouble and would put most people (here) on tilt.

I personally don’t mind having a mixture as long as the chips aren’t too different. I designed my $1 chip to have two variants, with different edge spot colours. I like them both individually, but when in stacks, I like it better when they are mixed together.

The bottom left barrel is the first design and the bottom right barrel is the second design. Everything else are barrels mixed naturally from last night’s game (where these ones lost their virginity lol) and I like the rainbow it produces
