800 chips, Apache 3800 or 4800? (1 Viewer)

Glock out of my 3800 -> chips into my 3800.

Pretty simple

Picked up an Apache 3800 this weekend and laid out my setup.

800 chips in Justin racks

300 flat on bottom and the rest on their sides.​

2 - 80mm DBs
1 - KGB Oreo DB
2 - Blind Buttons
1 - Bob-omb
1 - All In (3D Printed)
1 - Desijn Poker size setup

Overall satisfied with the purchase. Kind of glad I didn’t go with the larger case because I would have tried to cram more into it.

How close to the same width are the 3 flat to the 5 on end? I have a 3800 that I haven't gotten around to plucking yet, and this looks like a great setup.

Also, hope you plan to hit that foam with plasti-dip. Otherwise it's going to start coming apart with usage.

The bottom 3 are a little shorter. 2 racks on their side are a little wider than the one rack they sit on so I removed one row of foam less for the bottom row.

I’ll post a few more pictures later today or tomorrow. Also with the racks on their side they stick out just a little more so when closing the case you gotta squeeze it down a bit but no big deal.

Does the plastidip still leave a little flex on the foam or does it end up completely solid?

What about the smell? Did you have to air out the foam for a good while? Also did the smell leach on to anything inside the case?

It's been a couple years or so, but I don't recall a lingering smell. I did spray it out on my back patio and let the foam dry for a day or so before putting it back in the case.

I plasti-dipped some foam for a new case this weekend. It is best to leave the foam out overnight. I tried waiting 4 hours after coating but the smell lingered inside the case.

I was wrong about the two levels of foam they both are cut at the same spot. The three flat and the 5 on edge take up the same space and fit snug. The ones on edge don’t stick up as much from the top foam as I thought they did after taking the photo. But hope they give you an idea.

PCFers have been so helpful in sharing their configurations for Apache 3800 cases. I studied what you all did before I set up mine (photo below).

I was originally planning on 4800s, but went smaller based on one factor: where we play has some semi-skinny staircases, plus I'm a big guy. 3800s give me and the cases a better chance of fitting through without bumping the walls repeatedly.

My initial concern was getting 1000 chips to fit in a case. But I was able to Tetris it and make things work.

Re: the photo, it's eight flat Justin racks (four underneath, four on top), plus two vertical racks. Note that one of the vertical racks is placed under the handle, with no padding there. Why? Because if I were to drop the 3800, it would not fall on its handle, it would fall on its feet/bottom or perhaps any other side, so the shock would already be absorbed by several layers of padding. And if I somehow purposely dropped it handle-down, the handle would hit the ground first/absorb the impact anyway. That rack under the handle is super snug, yet somehow easy to take out. Top foam is whole, bottom foam is whole. Only the middle layers have been cut, as you can see. All the foam is coated with Plastidip (if I were to ever set up a case again, I might find an alternative to Plastidip or something entirely different from the foam solely to avoid using Plastidip. It was noxious stuff, even though I used it outside. I also left the coated foam out overnight so the smell dissipated).

I have 1k chips, with room for buttons, two setups, cut cards, and cash bag. The lid closes easily even with all those things on top of the racks. Snug, but not bursting at the seams, so to speak.
