Hola!

Looking to run a live cash 8-game in a week or two, and trying to sort out the blinds/antes/bringins. My cash set is $.25/$1/$5/$25/$100.

Our group is used to playing NL/PL $1/$1, so I was thinking along these lines:
  • Limit & Draw Games - $.50 SB, $1 BB, $1/$2 small/big bet
  • Stud Games - $.25 ante, $.50 bringin, $1 complete, $1/$2 small/big bet
  • NL/PL Games - $.50 SB, $1 BB
Also: we'd prefer to play 8-handed, but that's an issue w/ 2-7 triple draw. Thoughts on running 2-7 triple draw with a shuffle of all discards into the stub once once you run out of sufficient cards in the stub, and not waiting till the end of that round? Or should we just change it to single draw?

Thoughts/input welcome!

Edit - this won't be the first time playing 8-game for them, we play it on Stars in my tourneys several times a year. Just first time playing live cash version of it.

If your group has been playing 1/1 NLHE, I recommend the following:

• 25c/50c blinds for Pot-Limit games
• 50c/$1 blinds for No-Limit games
• $1/$2 blinds for 2/4 Fixed-Limit games
• for Fixed-Limit 2/4 Stud games: $2 table ante, $1 bring-in, $2/$4 small/big bets

Play a complete orbit before changing games. For games where insufficient cards exist for 8 players (Triple-Draw, SOHE, etc.), have the dealer position sit out.

Appreciate the input, all!

We ended up pretty much running @BGinGA's recommendation:

• 50c/$1 blinds for Pot-Limit games (just to make the calculations easier)
• 50c/$1 blinds for No-Limit games
• $1/$2 blinds for 2/4 Fixed-Limit games
• for Fixed-Limit 2/4 Stud games: $2 table ante, 50c bring-in, $2/$4 small/big bets

Started at 7 PM, got 2 full runs of the full game mix in by 1 AM. Great time was had!

Edit: forgot we made the bringin 50c.

Fantastic, well done. Anything you'd change? Switching between the blinds wasn't too confusing?

Nothing off the top of my head I would change in terms of structure, nope. A few grumbles from 1-2 action guys wanting bigger limits, but that's always the case. I did print out a few copies of the 2-7 and stud game cards from the Mixed Games cards, those were good to have around.

Blind switches ended up not being bad at all, since the FL/NL/PL/Stud games are all right next to each other. After the first 2 or 3 hands, the ones who pay attention had it, and the ones who never do never had it ;). I tended to call out the bet changes when we got to 4th street, etc.. Also always called out a pair on the board in stud games during the small bet period.

I think the biggest hassle (and it wasn't THAT big) was players acting out of turn a few times due to not seeing another player having a hand in 2-7 triple draw. As a dealer, I need to be better at seeing those little blind spots and controlling the action a bit more.

I'm already trying to get another game in on the Sun before MLK day.....

Great to hear, well done! Mine were initially hesitant to switch from NL to FL but ended up enjoying it. I didn't try changing to different limits in the same night but we were playing Dealer's Choice, so every hand would need a reminder. I'll keep thinking on how best to do it.

Edit to add: A few of them were having trouble dealing across the full Barrington because of the antes strewn about. I asked if they instead wanted to do a BB ante, one player throws in the ante for everyone once a round because they're paying the sa- NOPE. Ridiculous idea. That's so much money for a hand, no shot.
