Cash Game $20 vs $25 chip for cash games (3 Viewers)

I'd totally be up for hosting a meat-up at some point, just figured travel to smAlbany, NY might be somewhat difficult and/or not very appealing.

The capital of NY, that has to be appealing! 3 hourish drive for me, id probably be in as long as it wasn't in the winter.

There's already enough 1s and 5s (and likely quarters) on the table when the player rebuys. Once he gets the larger denom, he can break it with the big stack.

I'm always about putting more chips at that table. I am not a fan of anyone having to make change for someone who rebuys unless I run out of chips, which for me is highly unlikely. Also it slows down the game twice, once for the rebuy, once for the change making, if it is breaking down a $100 it is even worse. Also some people I play with count chips 1 by 1 or 2 by 2 and that takes forever.

to each their own...

We played a $2/4 limit game last weekend. My 1200 $1s weren't enough to cover the initial buy-ins (8 players) so the $20s were on the table from the get go. No need to cap the buy-in in a limit game, and most of us like to play with big stacks of chips.

Regarding making change, it's so easy if it's one $20 for a stack of $1s, or one $100 for a stack of $5s, that it happens almost without thinking. This is why I love alternating denominations by 4x and 5x, which produces 20x multipliers.

It would be easy if every player stacked their chips in 20s, but not everyone seems to care about their stack sizes. Also most people still count even when they know how big they are.

Also $1200 in a 2-4 limit game! That must be some crazy action!

Making change for a reload from one of the table chip leaders should be easy, and any amateur dealer should be able to make change from a pot when necessary. Really don't see an issue, but as stated, to each his own...

Nearly all of the home games I have played in are self deal, so no dealer help is there. This is probably because I dont like underground games that charge crazy rake. The LOWEST capped rake game here I have found maxes at $20 a hand.

Most of our players stack their chips in 20s, and a couple will stack in 40s. One stacks his in 10s. Most are experienced players, and those who aren't, learn quickly.

Three or four of us buy in for 75 big bets. Everybody starts with at least one rack, and nobody gets more than two racks of $1s to start (the rest is in $20s). @Payback suggested that I'd only need to have four more racks made, and then everybody could start with two racks. One of these days I'll remember to take some pics.

I suggested that because I've thought about picking up a few more racks myself for the same purpose. 2 racks per/8 people = 1,600. Same reason I'd like to have 1,600 $5s in the set. Pipe dream/inflation in 20 years for a $10/$20 game. The only reason I've held off is because I've thought about doing some sort of different spot combination/commemorative type chip for the 1s since they get used more often. I had a commemorative made for HPI 2012, but didn't get one that went into my set so I thought that might be one thing I could do. Not sure what else or just get some more of the same, but that just seems boring.

Our group was just talking about using PayPal FF as extra security measure for our games. Players would transfer there buy-ins to the host, he then transfers money back to the players at the end of the night when they cash out.

Not sure if PayPal has transaction limits or not whatnot for FF, but it is something to look into.

There is an app called Venmo. Most of the young folks/co workers use it in LA to transfer small $. Most people use it for splitting tabs/bills, etc. Haven't used it for poker, but I have used it for sports betting and pools. No fee if its from a bank account.

More chips = more action so lower denoms helps to bring more chips to the table.

A rock solid 20 for me ;)

How many chips starting stack do you believe brings more action? My gut says around 40 chips is decent, regardless of BBs etc. So for $25 buy-in, do 20 X 25c + 20 X $1 = action? And the rebuys = 5 X $5.

Well there are different opinions about this.
My opinion is that if you have a wallet with 50x1$ Bills and 10x5$ bills you feel easier to spend both the five and the ones.
But if you have a wallet with 10x1$ 8x5$ and 1x50$ then you are short on singles and in gods name you will try to hold on to that 50$ as you only have one.

I always try to make the starting buy ins 40-60 chips.
Typical buy in at my table
3000kr Buy in
20x25kr
20x100kr
1x500kr

5000kr ReBuy
16x25kr
16x100kr
6x500kr

And of course my players like the bigger chips also. But since sometimes people wanted to rock a 2500kr plaques while being short stacked we made rules.
If you have 6000kr stack you can start asking for 1000kr chips
If you have 10.000kr stack you can ask for 2.500kr plaques
if you have a 35.000kr stack you can ask for a 10.000kr plaque

I'm excited to get a cash set with a $20 chip. In my .25/.50 home game, buy-ins and rebuys are usually $20, so the $25 chips rarely hit the table. But when people do rebuy for $25 or $50 or whatever and the $25 chips hit the table, they become like targets and trophies. I feel like using a $20 chip will result in more of the large chips hitting the table, and that's a good thing.

Im going to get $20 plaques if my players (myself included) can ever sack up and gamble bigger sums of money haha.

I prefer $20 chips as well but barrels mess with my OCD. I think the $20 chip is the only thing that doesn't really add up to a round number in a stack of 20.
