I was very surprised to see this call. Anyone think this river call for V is a slam dunk?

V opens 2.8BB in LJ. Folds to Hero in BB who calls with A7s.

Flop goes X/X.

Hero stabs turn 1/2 pot. V calls.

Hero fires river for pot. V calls with A-high and we chop! WTF can he see my cards??
Anyone think that V's call is remotely sane?

I think this is a standard-ish call. You're not really repping much with a pot sized river bet. 2, Q, or pocket pairs don't go this size. Basically a 10 or nothing. Probably also depends a lot on if V thinks if you would lead turn with a 10 after checking flop.

I don’t think it’s a bad call. Hard to put you on a 2 T or Q. Would have played differently. You could also have had 33 or 44 something like that.

It’s a good thing you fired out on the river. What would you have done if V bets half pot on the river after you check?

It's a pretty loose call, but it makes sense on some level because of how weak your line is. Clearly you whiffed the flop. Clearly you were taking a stab on the turn. Whether you hit the queen on the river is a bit of a gamble, but poker is a gamblin' game, after all.

You might have wanted to consider a value check here.
