Having a discussion with my friend @Ben8257 one day and we both agreed that theres no other kind of appreciation for a rack of chips than the one you've put together one single chip at a time only finding one every so often..... over the course of several years...... It's so true! Of course finding the occasional hoard is also fulfilling or if you can simply have 1000's of $ to throw at it but man the thought of that 100th chip on its way!!!!

Show us your 100th and how long that took!

Most are over a year
Had a big assist from a good friend for these two

I know others here have stuff much longer
I know some projects I have will be 5+ Years

Not sure if this totally counts, but finalizing this protege set was so fulfilling. While not terribly rare, the color and label variance of proteges has to be unmatched. This was easy 5+ years and probably approached 10k bought/sold chips to sort through and find a matching set. Pretty sure this is my "last to go" set simply based on the journey.

This thread is already incredible. Mad respect.

Was at #76 when Danny came up big with 34 to finish my babies (rack holds 105)

Took about two years and a ton of money.

This one happen faster than expected... about 14 months, definitely found a few small lots along the way

One is happening real real soon, and many in progress!

wow, great thread, I have a lot of chipsets I've built, one at a time. It's a real art, took a few years to find the patience, but it pays off. I remember when I was brand new to this hobby and how I wanted something right NOW, it was a hard feeling to get passed, but once you become more relaxed at collecting, the sets build themselves. Before I got the two full racks of Dunes dollars, at different times, I was building a rack of Dunes Dollars, one chip at a time on eBay, before I had competition, was paying around 10 bucks a chip, got that rack up to 73 before competition came along and now it's too hard. I've been building on Desert Inn 5's , have over 1 rack, chip by chip, build up Fiesta N LV 5's , have over three racks now, built up Flamingo 5 racks, had some help too, Fremont cic dollars, golden gate 5's, got some help too, Kings Crown 5's, My New Frontier BJ set, mostly off eBay, Plaza quarters, dollars, 5's , Riviera 5's, lots of sources, but definitely built a few racks , one at a time, Stardust cic '5s , 1's , Venetian 5's, but had help too. It makes it harder to sell something you put a lot of time into over the years, plus, You are definitely putting more money into a rack then you will probably get if you sell it as a rack, but maybe not, since I don't sell, what do I know.

This one was 3 years maybe a bit longer. Just completed it

One of my dream racks, very under rated fracs! Took a longgg time from the first 32 I found on eBay long ago... paid like $1.25 each for those back then... since then $5 - $6 each, plus shipping for many of them.

Just incase we ever are asked to bring it to @Seeking Alpha Social Club game... the only time we ever play $.50/$1, otherwise we use the purple quarters! Lol

Now we just need some renovated $20s

wow, great thread,
Agreed, great idea

I have to laugh at this one. 20 yrs ago or so I bought a pretty big set of Dunes, like 1000+ & just thought I would add $1's 1 chip at a time buying off e-bay or other collectors. When I found out that most of the $1's were in terrible condition and in order to buy $1's in decent condition I thought that was the dumbest thing ever and just sold the entire lot for like $2.50/chip because that was what they were going for at the time

You are definitely putting more money into a rack then you will probably get if you sell it as a rack, but maybe not, since I don't sell, what do I know.
Confirmed

Agreed, those 50 cent chips are great!

Tropicana $1 first edition. These took roughly 9 years. Thanks for looking
Absolutely love this set Lee, your efforts on this one have given many of us inspiration over the years to start our own multi year quest! "Insert large crowd Standing Ovation"

On your beautiful $1 Trop TRKs... I absolutely love that you can see that dark blue through the inlay and that these are indeed true full quarter pies, unlike Paulson who just do the large clay inserts as edge spots.

One of the nicest guys you could ever want to meet! Again Congratulations on finally finishing it buddy... oh and Dibs on a couple seats for @FordPickup92 and I if you ever get them on the felt! Haha

OP said show your 100th chip... so I was trying to follow that, but this one is very high on the list for me

Sitting at 89 now... haven't added any in a long time, but early on @ReallyGoodUsername helped me out big time on this one.

I do believe there are two playable sets of these out there.

To those that don't know, hurricane Catrina destroyed the gulf coast. It ripped the Riverboat Casino President Casino Biloxi from its semi permanent anchored position and destroyed the boat. Many of these chips from my understanding went out the belly of the ship and washed up on the local shores. Locals went put and gathered them up, absolutely disgusting and covered in mud and sand, many of the people that collect these think it "destroys the value" by cleaning them. Took me many hours to bring them back to life, and God willing one day back.on the felt where they belong!

The entire line up is insane and absolutely what I would consider to be a Grail or GOAT set given the history of what happened to that poor river boat.

Still hunting is anyone ever finds any... I will pay very very well to finish this rack!
