The idea of a "Chip Olympics" has been bantered about at various meet-ups. I know @Jeff had some good ideas at the Hitching Post, but I failed to commit them to memory at the time. @slisk250 has brought it back up again, willing to host the first Chip Olympics at the Divide in August.

While I could perhaps come up with a handful of events, I was wondering what other chip-related events the community thinks would be a good test of chip handling skills.

What I have so far...
  • Barrel Cut - Participants are given a stack of 25-35 chips, and get a single attempt to cut out 20 chips in 3 seconds or less. Cut must be made in a single movement. Multiple round event, using Paulsons, ASM/CPCs, Ceramics, and China Clay (if available). 20 points for each round, minus 1 for each chip a cut is off.
  • Splashed Pot - 100 chips in 3 different denoms are mixed into a splashed pot. Participants must pull the pot, then stack the chips into sorted stacks, with no stack containing more than 20 chips. Timed event. A dirty stack is a 1 minute penalty for each dirty chip. A stack of more than 20 chips is a 30 second penalty for each chip. Largest denom must be visible (out front or on top).
  • Mold Identification - Participants must identify the type of CPC/ASM Mold, without looking. They may touch, shuffle, taste (ok, maybe not taste) the chips. Number of chips to Identify depends on the number of different molds available. Timed event. Misidentification of a chip is a 1 minute penalty.
Any other ideas? Any modifications to these?

Add
Shuffling.
Chip bounce (onto a barrel)
Stacking a splashed pot (by denom).

If you add cards.. it opens up a lot of possibilities such as

Card pitching into a set (player position) area at the end of the table.

Pitching into a hat. Give 10 secs to pitch as many cards into the hat as they can. Hat and player are on opposite ends of a table.

(Stealing from the wpt) take an entire suit (minus one card) and peel one card face up per second. Then give the player 5 seconds to name the missing card.

How would you determine a "winner" shuffling? I had also considered chip tricks, but would prefer objective events.

Chip Bounce is interesting - though I've never seen anyone do this. I assume it's throwing a chip down hard enough to bounce and land on top of a barrel of chips. Isn't this borderline chip abuse?

Stacking a splashed pot (by denom). I think this is the same as the Splashed Pot event.

I would rather keep it to chips - Dealing skills are great and all, but I think "Chip Olympics" should utilize chips.

Ahh missed the splashed pot above. I read that as something else.

The bounce (if done on a padded table) isn’t abuse.

The shuffling starts out with multiple players shuffling X number of chips. Those who can shuffle successfully with no “errors” move onto the next round. Which just involves adding 2 chips to the stack.

And call it poker olympics. The meet ups are more accurately described as poker themed parties.

Splashed pot variant. Must say total dollar value of chips in pot.

Barrel roll. Roll 20 chips from one of the table to the other. 1 point for each chip that makes it across the finish line.

Fantastic idea. I think I'll have to give this a try someday. No doubt there's probably going to be prop best on the side.

Chip count:

Cover a stacks of chips with a box, reveal it and count the stack as fast as possible.

Pot count.

Splashed pot in the middle of the table, best guess within 20 seconds, write down the answer.

Side pot calculator

Create a situation of a multiway all in, the main pot and side pot(s) get made up as fast as possible.

I like the idea of adding cards events like fastest deal and pitching accuracy. Maybe even get some cheap cards and try a hardest throw into some Styrofoam.

Intestinal Fortitude Olympic event. Event is outdoors. Each participant must bring a clay chip worth at least 10 dollars.

Starting height is 1 foot. Chips are dropped onto a hard surface, such as concrete or tile. Height increases 1 foot each time to maximum 15 feet.

Crying "uncle" disqualifies you. If your chip breaks you are also disqualified. Winner is the last chip standing!

I would crush that splashed pot event! Roulette training for the win.
Not so sure about that. And feel free to inscribe the barrel cut gold with my name during the ordering process ;)

I rather see something like best chip tower built with say 1000 chips. Leave them on display all weekend and let people vote.

highest stack
+1 this ^^^^ :D

I may or may not have a single event figured out. We have other things to do like play cards and eat. No details until the event. There may or may not be a grand prize for the champ.

...anyone attempting to practice stacking abilities with my chips will be issued a beating from security, body cams will be off.
