Greatest living Canadian Don Cherry fired . How can this be ? I know in Boston Don Cherry is truly beloved, kind of like Dolly Parton. Aren’t Canadians outraged by this turn of events.

I’m surprised this didn’t happen years ago, the man is too old to care what people think anymore. In this “culture” if one is offended someone has to pay, rather than just deal with being offended.

I personally don’t care much about his dismissal as I rarely watch HNIC anyway. All my hockey watching is gamecenter feeds now.

Our country is turning into a population of hypocritical pansies. We elect a prime minister who has worn “blackface” multiple times on one hand, and on the other we fire a guy like Cherry for having an opinion (which he could have kept to himself maybe).

He was entertaining, but his analysis hasn't grown with the game. And to be honest, he was a political-correctness accident waiting to happen. I'm amazed he lasted this long. I think most people tuned in to see what the hell he was wearing and if he would say something politically incorrect enough to get fired. Had he not singled out a specific group in his rant, this would have been a non-issue.

I'm interested to see how Sportsnet will fill the time now in the first intermission for HNIC broadcasts. I really can't see another former coach stepping in there to fill that role...he was there for 30 yrs.

In any event, just think of the chesterfields that will now have fabric as a result of his reduced need for those suits...

Personally, I’m outraged but not surprised. Ultra-liberalism has gone awry. To recap, for my American friends, Don Cherry has often walked a line. He is very off the cuff. And while he says things that are often abrasive by today’s culture, he’s often bang-on. In this instance he points the finger at “immigrants” for not buying poppies. It’s also a truth. Although no data can be provided to prove this, per se, the logic still holds weight when we consider the amount of immigrants that enter the country year over year. We know for a certainty that poppy sales and donations are down. Way down. So with the massive influx of immigrants these numbers should never have backed off. One could even argue the numbers should have increased. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to add that according to CTV news this evening immigrants are at a record low for applying for citizenship. Imagine that....seemingly they don’t want the Canadian experience...
Legion halls are desperate. Not just money, but respect. If immigrants we’re so happy to be part of Canada it is fair to expect that they understand the sacrifices made to make it this way. And frankly, they fall short. Now I know where this is going for some. But I’d ask you to consider this. I realize that if what I’ve written here so far ended up on CNN it would look like I’m a raving racist. Blaming immigrants and all...
But this is where it gets interesting. Because I’ve had this argument two times already today. The left needs to get over the whole immigrant/racist connection. Calling immigrants “immigrants” isn’t racist or derogatory. It also isn’t a racist term. But the left (our media) immediately called Cherry divisive and a racist. For what? Last time I checked immigrants came from all over the world.
I can’t help but think this whole thing wouldn’t be so big if people envisioned “immigrants” as a typical Norwegian rather than middle eastern people’s..
That’s my take. I may be biased as I actually love Cherry. He’s said some really dumb shit over the years but he has given back tenfold. I like to measure individuals by their deeds than words spoken in a heartfelt rant. I also hope that friends here who don’t agree with me would afford me the same benefit. :)

:LOL: :laugh::ROFL: :ROFLMAO:...The suits! :LOL: :laugh::ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

Certainly the best dressed man in Canada or North America for that matter. Cherry is an icon. The guy spoke his mind for many years and would say it to your face. I loved it when he commented on the Boston fans response to America’s National Anthem being booed loudly by fans at the fabulous forum . Good stuff.

Great post, ultra-liberalism in this country drives me nuts. I see it getting worse before it gets better (not sure how that's possible).

I'm kind of outraged that the a$$hat was allowed on the air for so long. Not necessarily because of what he said, most of which I disagreed with, but because of what he wore every week, :vomit::vomit::vomit:

Don Cherry had style. Each outfit well thought out And executed. He dressed like a Paulson chip with wonderful edge spots . Who else could have you thinking of color combos for chips just by seeing what Coach Cherry was wearing ?

He hasn’t had a relevant thing to say about hockey in a decade but has a prime slot on the biggest hockey show in Canada. Should have been fired for that alone years ago.

I’d flip to another game of actual hockey before I listened to his “YA KNOW”s, “YOU KIDS”, “GOOD CANADIAN BOYS” etc.

If it was these recent comments alone he’d probably fine, but literally 30 years of broadcast liabilities finally caught up with him. The amount of complaints overwhelmed the broadcast tv watchdog’s capacity to receive them.

it wasn't that he offended the people... he offended the liberal governments adopted UN policy of mass immigration, and in a country where the party in power owns the media and the tv station( literally ) ...... he was doomed. if you voted red ..... you fired cherry!
