Feeling you out PCF. How do you feel about your custom chip designs. (1 Viewer)

Stealing your CPC designs, How do you feel?

  • Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

  • Plagiarism!

  • Stole mine from someone else....so...yeah.....chip karma....

  • As long as you don't steal my inlay design, we're good.

  • Couldn't care less.

Are we talking edgespot design or inlays?

Are we talking one chip or a whole line up?

I’ve had people copy my color combos on a single chip, and it didn’t bother me TOO much... but there was some teenie sense that the uniqueness of my design (the two years of design) was marginalized. But I was also flattered, so it kinda balanced out to not giving a rats ass. That said, if someone copied the entire lineup of colors, or if they copied the name or inlays, I’d be miffed.

Inspiration and tributes that still end up with a new design are different and okay. But I feel strongly exact copies are tantamount to theft.

Bear in mind, game security is often the reason people want customs. Many even pay designers for this as well. I think it's wrong to just rip off designs.

I don't have a set of custom CPC's...yet. But there are only so many combinations, especially with the simpler edgespots. It's understandable that a chip might get duplicated, whether by accident or on purpose. A whole lineup would bug me, for sure.

At the end of the day, I wouldn’t lose sleep over it. It’s not that big of a deal, really. I paid for my inlay, but it’s personal enough I doubt it would be copied.

Cant say I feel that anyone has ownership over colour combos lol. If you directly copy someone's custom chip exactly with intent, I guess that's weird.

But there are only so many colour combos that work on some chips so a fair bit of overlap is to be expected.

My answer is that I don't care really. If someone I liked asked to replicate my set, I'd have no qualms.

I would feel the same way. Spent months coming up with the color combinations and put in an immense amount of love, dedication into the inlays. Even learned Adobe Illustrator. So if someone copies the inlay, I’d be less than pleased.

And many more.

I’ve been flattered by a couple people that have mentioned creating a specific chip inspired by or copy of one of mine. I’d be pissed if my theme/inlay were copied or my entire lineup.
Also, this thread needs more pics.

Using similar colors is fine as long as you're not copying the exact same chip without asking IMO. But if you knowingly copy someone's exact chip and don't ask them first for permission, that's a bit poopy.

I'm new here. However, I did want to say that whenever I finally pull the trigger on a CPC set; I'm going to "steal" a lot of ideas from people posting. There are so many beautiful ideas that are, quite frankly, better than mine. I won't steal the inlays; I want something of my own. However, there might be a couple of designs that influence what I want. I won't borrow a complete set, either... maybe borrow a $1 chip here and $5 there. I hope it is taking as flattery... and I was thinking that asking permission might be a smart idea just in case.

Copy a chip design? Are you kidding? Who in the hell thinks color combos belong to anyone? Go ahead and make the same chipes. The inlay is mine...

I also gave permission to a couple other people here to completely copy my Mike's set including the inlay (they changed lettering from Mike's to Mel's and Marty's).
I think I was the first person to completely copy a Mapes set (unfortunately before the SCROWN was available), I never saw Brett's set that copied some Mapes chips. Does that mean I have some sort of exclusive ownership of the Mapes color combos? :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO: that is just silly
