Once in a while they are fine. One or two to end the night is sometimes fun. I wouldn't want them to be happening all the time.

We did one for $2 every half hour in my last cash game. Player feedback was positive, it was fun. I wouldn’t want to pay much more than $2 though.

My view is to give the action players what they want. Bomb pots, multiple straddles, blind bets ... whatever it takes to keep them interested in the game!

I like them in moderation. The bomb pots we have tend to get wild so I can see too many of them having an adverse effect and causing short handed games. We usually do one or two over the night.

Never participated in one but it sounds kind of annoying. I wouldn't want to do it more than once in a night and even then... getting stacked in a single hand of clown poker at any point in the night would be irritating.

Someone suggested it one time I think at a charity room - I objected because I didn't want to do it on my button. No one brought it up again.

You can always just fold. We don't do it as a part of someones position since bomb pots are really just about the gambol. I also have learned to avoid getting my stack in unless I have the nuts because the betting gets wild. All sorts of weird two pairs and stuff.

I agree with article. Do your bomb pots as a double board, and keep the antes lower so that there is more maneuverability postflop. So if you are hosting 1/2, a $5 ante double board bomb pot is a nice respite

Single board $10 or $15 ante bomb pot would be to the detriment of a $1/$2 game

I don’t understand the attraction to anything that minimizes the skill level in poker. We fight so hard to get poker recognized as a game of skill and then thumb our noses at many of those skills with bomb pots? Sure, a 2x ante bomb pot at the end of the night is fun, but anything more is not a good thing in my book.

Every once in a while I like to throw in a flip sometime during the game, everybody in for $5 or $20 depending on the game and we just see who wins for fun. Would much rather do that than bomb pots.

I find it interesting that often times at our poker meetups, the circus table already has inadvertently implimented his top two suggestions with great regularity - two-way hands are common, and often times there are family pots where everybody's tossed in $3+ on 25c/50c blinds. We've self-regulated to what seems to be a more enjoyable spot for most of the participants involved.

When we feel like blindly gambling in a DC game we more often choose to do a round of flips. Neutral EV and a nice break and change of pace.

Deal me out of all this new crap. Poker is ALREADY fun, at least to me. I don't need straddles, or bomb pots, or deuces wild, or any other nonsense. Maybe is because I don't play every day so I don't need something extra to keep me entertained.

For all the years we have stressed to the guvment that poker is a game of skill. Bomb pots is just about 100% luck box.

In my home game the first person to win a hand with a full house or better gets a "bomb pot" chip that can be deployed whenever they want during the game before a hand is dealt. A "money in the bank" type of concept, if you will.

That and last hand of the night are bomb pots. It helps break up a nitty game when it's used sparingly.

I have only played in a game with Bomb pots once. This was at @Marc Hedrick place. Once an hour we did a double board PLO bomb pot for 2 bucks per person. It was a blast.

No different in this than when we play a dealers choice night and somebody calls scarny. Play tight, and hammer the shit out of it it you hit. Then pray that it holds up. I ended up making most of my money that night in the bomb pot hands lol

So this happened at a home game I play at sometimes. I wasn't present but I talked to both sides, and this is what went down..

It was late, lots of action all night, lots of rebuys, so deep stacks. Double board bomb pot was called, $10 ante, full ring. 3 players eventually got it all in (1 being the host) before the river card, so the pot was $1500+. On the river, the dealer (self deal) put the river down then questioned himself whether he put the bottom row 1st or top row 1st. Our rule is - you have to deal the cards consistently row wise for flop, turn, and river. One player (in the hand) said he did it right, another player (in the hand) said he did it wrong. The dealer couldn't remember, and he was not in hand. They looked to the host for resolution, he declared it was right (I don't know if he saw it dealt or not). However, his ruling made himself and 1 other the winner splitting the pot, leaving 1 loser. However, if the cards were switched, it would make the original loser player the winner scooping, and the other 2 (including the host) losers. The person was furious. They left immediately, and later texted the host he ran a crooked game. Never seen the player again.
