So you're saying I better oil them before putting them into play?

I don't believe chips are like wood, where they contain natural oil and once thats gone they become dry and brittle.

If a chip's at the point where its fragile enough to break easy, i dont think oil will solve that issue. Super Glue might! (new super glue thread coming soon  :ROFLMAO: )

I say use without oiling !

edit: If they crumble at first use like a super hero in Infinity War, well then i guess i was wrong.:D

They certainly do contain moisture, which dries out over time..... making them become dry and arguably brittle. I'd further wager that a dried-out chip is more prone to being nicked/chipped or otherwise damaged than one that contains moisture (either as-made or subsequently oiled).

I love to wager ! but i think we need a chemist to answer this. Is there a chemist in the house!

My big grief with oiling paulson yellows is the color bleed. It’s super annoying. Hence getting away from oiling, atleast the yellows.

Just my opinion, but it think oiling chips should be reserved for older, worn, Ultrasonic cleaned chips. Or personal new custom CPC sets.

Personally its tilting to see oiled new Paulsons. Also i think it devalues them.
is it just me?

( yup this is my 'old man yells at cloud' moment o_O)

Not just you. Personally, I wouldn’t be interested in buying new Paulsons if they had been previously oiled, and they certainly shouldn’t be listed or sold as „new/uncirculated/etc“ if that’s the case. Older chips? Sure. CPC? Sure. But hands off those new Paulsons.

I think we’re missing the point that no one should ever haved oiled new Paulsons and not have used them already

My avatar does a lot of drugs...would he be considered a chemist??

Also, I finally found something I can agree with you @MatB;)

2 things. SDM chips as well!

Oiling new Paulson solids can help blend color inconsistencies. Helps a lot on darker colors like green, charcoal, and black.
Once oiled i don't think you can call them mint uncirculated either though.
Sure you can. "Oiled Mint Uncirculated Paulsons". :D
Here's a recent WTS ad for oiled mint chips, done for exactly the reason I stated above:

No social commentary, just an observance. :cool
