13 years ago I bought myself a nice 1000-chip tourney set of Paulson Pharoahs as my "Returning From Iraq In Mostly One Piece"-gift... When my wife at the time found out how much I spent on them ($950 shipped), she FREAKED!!! I enjoyed them for about 2 years but finally got tired of her fucking bitching about their cost so I sold them for exactly what I paid for them. I replaced them with a nice set of PGI edgespot clays and enjoyed them for a few years with my weekly poker group in Italy. When I PCS'ed back to the states, I gave the set to the group (since I'd taken so much money from them, I thought it was a nice gesture). Anyway, divorce, military life, transition to civilian life, etc., all kept me from getting back into the hobby for several years.

I was a LONG time CT member, so a few months ago when I went there I was shocked to see it basically dead. I thought maybe the poker craze had passed and the home hobby had died. I was very sad. Imagine my shock to learn that Paulson no longer sells to the public (and the further shock of what my set would have been worth if I still had it). Ah well... Anyway, I didn't find this site until a few days ago, so I'm SUPER relieved to see the hobby is alive and well! (I've since read what happened with CT). Researching chips now and just ordered a bunch of sample sets from Apache.

Super excited to be back and looking forward to learning what I missed in the last 10+ years.

Cheers,
Vaughn

Thank you for your service! And welcome back to the fold.

There is still much going on in the chipping world.

Welcome to PCF. Thanks for serving. What branch? I did the Air Force thing about 27 years ago.

Thank you! Navy for me. Thank you for YOUR service. You served at a time when it wasn't popular. I enlisted in '93, and I remember very well a neutral-to-negative attitude towards the military by the general public at the time. 9/11 changed all of that, obviously.

Oh, and LGRW!!! :D

I see that! That's super exciting!!

Should have sold the ex-wife and kept the chips.

Truer words were never written!!

Welcome, neighbor!

Thanks, I'm actually in McLean, VA. :)

Ahhhhh.....a fellow sailor in VA :)

Welcome, thank you for your service, and hit me up if you find yourself in the Fredericksburg area looking to cuss and drink like a sailor while playing poker. We do it every weekend. We do have a few Marines in the crew, but we tolerate them because they are the Navy's red headed step child. :ROFLMAO:

Haha! Nice! I work with a lot of Marines. Whenever I remind them they're Department of the Navy, they retort, "Yeh, the Men's Department..." :D

Welcome, from a former artillery soldier of an allied Army (the Hellenic / Greek Army). :)
I didn't have to fight eventually*, but our Commander made sure everyone of us said goodbye to their parents on the phone on Jan 30th 1996, before the battalion's moving close to the expected battlefield:D
Coming from artillery service (ie with impeded hearing:ROFL: :ROFLMAO:), I insist that verbal statements in poker games are not just binding, but loud and clear also:)
M109A3 howitzers, FTW.

*It would have been against another NATO member state attacking us:D

LOL!! I get the same response. Just educate them on where the term Semper Fi came from.

In 1798, Marines were established and went to sea on Navy vessels.

During drills, the CO ordered the Marines to defend the starboard side of the ship. Half those bastards ran to the port side and the other half ran to the stern.

Dumbfounded, the CO called everybody to attention and commenced chewing their ass out.

One lone Marine raised his hand and said, "sir, we be Marines. You needs to Semper Fi them orders."

 :ROFLMAO:

I learned that MARINES stands for:
My Ass Rides In Navy Equiptment, Sir.
When my friend was in the Army he told me this joke:
Why does the Navy carry the Marines around on their ships?
Because sheep would be too obvious.

He said that was his favorite because it made fun of two other branches at the same time. :D

I don't fuck with the Marines. I worked closely with them when I was in Panama in the summer/fall of 88. Those dudes had my back when I had to take my canine into the fucking jungle to search for PDF. Thumbs up to the grunts!

I've pretty much bankrupted myself chasing these Pharaoh's...

And I only joined 3 months ago...

I'm still married to a reasonably angry wife. Things can only get better...hahahaha

One life right...

Welcome back to the sickness!
