Boston Chips.png

I was playing around with CPCs chip design tool, working on a standard white-red-green-black cash set scheme... When it hit me: Those correspond to the Boston/New England teams: Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins. I was subliminally making chips that looked like my teams’ uniforms.

This surely isn’t a new idea. Does anyone have chipsets with colors chosen for their sports rooting interests? I’ve seen tables with team logos, for sure.

My next thought was to use denominations (1-5-25-100) corresponding to players who wore that number. But of course no one has worn 100 (or 00) for the Bruins. The highest I think was 92. Might have to make a $92 chip. Tough luck, players. Figure it out.

I messed around with the same idea for SF Bay Area sports teams. I wanted a set to represent my love for living here and thought that might be the way to go. I’m not really that much of a sports fan(do like baseball and basketball, not a superfan) and had trouble coming up with base/side paint combos that I liked so I quickly nixed that idea.

I think you’re on to something though, keep at it.

I did something sort of similar, but rather than multiple teams in the same set I did a set with multiple inlays for the same team. Twice, actually. I have a Boston College cash game set (clay colors aren’t especially team-based on that one) and a Utah Jazz tournament set. For the Jazz set I used different versions of the team logo from over the years and chose colors and edge spots that basically went with the logos.

Do you think CPC would have a problem with using copyrighted team logos, if these were strictly for a one-off private set?

My in progress cash set uses the cowboys for the 1 and Texas a&m for the 5. I know the maroon is probably too dark...still a long ways to go.

You need to get permission but you might be surprised how many teams will give this.

@BSteck made semi-custom Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones Majestic sets.

@BSteck, I understand the pink 5, but why the brown 100 on the Iowa set?

Yah... we went back and forth on that one. We just felt the brown was a better fit with the Hawkeye gold logo and the pink/salmon and green chips than the black would have been. Plus it's kind of a football color. So... locker room, turf, football. ('ish)

Football--didn't even think of that! It works!

Those edge spots are great, even look like laces! (y)

True. The Dirty ole Birds are really stinkin it up this year. To many injuries, and too many mistakes!

Thank you! I'm very set in my ways as to tournament colors (green 25, black 100, purple/lavender 500, yellow/gold 1000, I can go orange or pink on 5k). It was fun to figure out how to integrate those colors with team logos from over the years. Also fun to take the CPC color samples and try to figure out the best match to go with the logos. I got this set in play for the first time last week in a small 2-table tourney, and they were well received. It was gratifying to see that there were no real "dirty stack" or denomination confusion issues when they were in play.
