I played in a small $130 tourney at Harrah’s New Orleans yesterday. It seemed like a lot of local regs. I saw three different plays that shocked me, from these regs. The last one is so illogical that it uh bothers me.

1) Reg A called a 4x all-in preflop 3bet raise with :jh::ts:

2) Reg B called a 3x all-in preflop 4bet raise with :4h::5h:. Additional details...we are 4 handed and in the money, Reg B is #2 stack, and the all-in is from chip leader

3) Reg C open shoves 5bb with :2c::5d: from HJ.

I just don’t get it. In example 3, the lady who shoved was playing very tight. I’d been there two orbits and it was her first open. I assumed she had to go, which is the only thing really that made sense, but 30 min later, at the next break, she was just sitting at an empty cash table. What gives?

Trying to get in the head of a poor player (a short trip for me :unsure:)

Reg A: J-To is 54% against any two cards. He's flipping with a slight edge. :bag:
Reg B: 4-5s 39% to win. In the money so already playing with the house's money. A 39% chance to become dominant chip leader/bink first place money. Risk=zero, and 1st is what, ~$1000? Call all day, baby :x
Reg C: Trying to steal. Tight image would make questionable players reconsider the call. Sitting at empty cash table texting either "how could they call that", "fucker woke up with a monster", or "They caught their 9 (or whatever) on the river" (leaving out the behind the whole time or 5bb details). :banghead:

I'll give that #3 is really odd. Obviously, stack is in shove-fest territory, but 25o? I can see an argument for trying to steal, but you want to have at least some kind of backup when the steal fails.

The other two, stack sizes are crazy-short, and it looks like they're just picking a hand and going with it rather than waiting for the blinds to eat them alive. If these were in a cash game and people were calling 30 BB and 40 BB shoves with those hands, then yes, bad regs, but when your whole stack is just 3–4 BB, you gotta make a stand at some point and hope for the best. Were you expecting them to hold out for JJ+?

2) Reg B called a 3x all-in preflop 4bet raise with :4h::5h:.

Some chick with less than 20 bb's opened for 3x last week. I went all in with my 6bb and KK. She called, tabled her :4c::5c:, and the flop was three clubs. Know why? Because poker is dumb.

Thanks @Poker Zombie, that helps a bunch. For what it’s worth, after Reg B called with :4h::5h:, he flopped two pair and doubled into the chip lead, and then proceeded to continue punting. He got out in 4th. Entertaining final table for sure

#2 is abismal, #1 is awful but not even close to being as bad as #2 and #3 is okay.
