The Essential Edge: Official Knife Thread (1 Viewer)

For what -- hot dog roasts?

I spent 26 months in 'Nam, and never even laid eyes on an M7 bayonet. They were nothing but a liability in the jungle or for close quarters combat because of the length they added to M14s and M16s.

I ‘Spose if it was trench warfare and you needed to reach out and touch someone...

Mine was reclaimed after being discarded in 'Nam, so I'm told.

What’s the best Swiss Army knife to buy? I’d prolly want one that has scissors and a blade, not much else that I’d need. I don’t own any Swiss Army knives, and think it would be cool to add one to the collection
I've wanted one of these Victorinox Wilderness knives for a while. It's only two layers so its very slim and lightweight. No scissors but I find the pruning blade is a better cutting tool and the saw is quite useful too.

Big Sis gave me this beauty... I’d been without a Leatherman for a few years and they are a local outfit here. This one is a fair bit smaller (and way more snazzy) than the other.

Santa brought me a Buck.

Man, this brings me back. Santa brought me my first knife when I was seven, a Schrade. It saw a lot of use for about ten years when I fished a lot. Just dug it out for the first time in better than a decade.

Errrr.... YIKES. :eek::(

So I gave it a quick cleanup and some oil. Cleaned the sheath with saddle soap and a coat of Obenauf's. Need to pick up a good metal polish to better clean up the light pitting where the corrosion was. Flash makes it look much worse than real life.

I have a fixed blade Schrade somewhere...I think it's in my camping stuff. And it's not Vintage Schrade, it's newer... I've read that they were bought out and it's all made in China now...

Yes I believe just the name was purchased after the company shut down, and is now slapped on Chinese knives. An unfortunate fate for what was once a pretty solid brand. My knife is early-90s and built like a freakin' tank.

My collection.

Leatherman Surge - A very well made, solid tool. A bit heavy for EDC.
Busse NMSFNO - My grail knife. Safe queen.
Swamp Rat Ratmandu - A handy camp knife.
3 x Moras - Overall, the best value knives.
Benchmade 710 - A large, quality folding knife.
Silky Gomboy 210 - Awesome. Best folding saw in the world.

Score! Apparently it’s been too long since I’ve competed in a TKD tourney, because as my wife is getting the family TKD gear ready for a TKD tourney tomorrow morning, she was cleaning out one of the gear bags and explains that she found THIS knife in with gear... WTF, I thought I’d lost this a long time ago... nice find Mrs Honda. ;)

I have these 2, as you guys probably know a Leatherman Wave & a Leatherman Crater C33.
I wouldn't recommend carrying these in my country as you will probably end up in jail.

What do you think about people carrying knives?
